PAINT/BODY GUYS AND GIRLS. .. Need an honest and open opinion on costs or average costs. There are a ton of people out there selling 69-72 complete bodys for K5 Blazers. Most of them don't have fenders, hoods and radiator supports but some packages do. I see these ranging from 15k for just the tub and doors to close to 20K+ when you add the front pieces. Then add on shipping and taxes and I would think you would be near 19-24K landed to your door.
Now my add on question. How good are these bodies when they show up to you to paint? Assuming there would be some smoothing filling, sanding etc to get them straight and then paint. In your PROFESSIONAL opinion, using these repro bodies online you see, what would a ballpark range cost to prep, and paint for a quality paint job? Appreciate any info you can lend. Remember quality paint job not trailer queen or SEMA quality as 95% of us out there want a really nice paint job but don't trailer them around either. Not saying a MAACO job either.. lol. I know it may be a hard question to answer but ballpark figures would be helpful.

Thanks in advance!215908215907

I would take your pics down to a local body shop you trust and ask the same question.

I'm just starting a project of my own. I've never had to have a vehicle painted. How do you find a good shop and if you're taking them a classic, how do you know you can trust them? Excuse my ignorance.

Taking a classic car to a collision shop is a huge gamble. Better to find a shop that specializes in classic cars and go take a look at their shop and work. If you see cars pushed aside collecting dust keep looking for a different shop. Classic cars paint is not cheap….

Car shows. Go to classic car shows and if you see good looking paint job just go start talking to the owner. Also go find the old boys in the car clubs and pick their brains, A lot of car clubs will know of one or two shops local to you that they have used before and trust. Most importantly they will gladly tell you who to stay away from.

Just a note in regards to material costs.
The body shop I help at a couple days a week was repairing a deer hit 2004 Ford F150. Needed a quart of blue metallic. Just for the paint it was $550 for the quart. That cost doesn't include primer, sealer and clear.

I've not used a body from premier so I can't speak to their quality but after market bodies in general suck, in general there's a lot of time on refit which costs a lot of extra money.
