So, I realized I posted to the wrong forum but here is my build...
cheap s550 complete car I got for 9k v6 auto, im looking to swap in a 5.3 or 6.0 depending on what I can get for the price. my question is how have you guys got around with engine management? Holley? I ideally want to try and use the ford gauges that are factory. ive heard that you can use a GM crank sensor and it gets the gauges going, not sure how valid that is. any tips or concerns as im already collecting parts. thanks

you could run either Holley or a GM ECU. there are pros and cons to both depending on what you are trying to do. sometimes you can use the ford sensors for oil pressure, and temperature the tach might be adjustable and might accommodate a v8 since that car also came with a v8. the speedometer might work off of whatever signal comes from whatever transmission you choose, but it may need to be recalibrated.

also depending on which 5.3 you get you might end up with less power than that v6 has. of course, from there its easy to do cam, turbo, or whatever.

I assume this car won't need to pass emissions?

Sounds like a fun project. I'm curious though, unless you are trying to be different and dead set on an LS engine why not just find a cheaper F150 5.0 and swap that in? There's a ton of support for the coyote engines and they can make incredible HP stock.

Check out Vorshlag and their Mustang "Trigger". It's a race car, but they do things in the most sensical way.

to answer some of the questions, no, im not exactly set on using a LS and if I did I will be running force induction as well. but the issue with the coyote route is finding one that isn't ridiculously overpriced in my area is difficult. and the idea for the build is to be a cost effective street legal drag car. smog isn't an issue as ill be doing a "dirty" smog. the car is a factory 6r80 car and I plan on putting a manual transmission in with whatever engine I decide on, ideally a t56. Again nothing is set in stone but what's set is the v6 will not be staying.

I don't mean to be a downer, but I would sell the V6 car and buy a Coyote car. You will be thousands of dollars ahead.
