Does anyone have experience using the racemate water pump/alternator combo? Looks like a cool idea, but I am not sure if it is suitable for a street application.http://www.racemate.com (http://www.racemate.com/)

Those are AWESOME, and I did some research a while back. I determined that the alternator simply doesn't put out much power. I think it was less that a stock alternator and not good if you had any sort of electric draw such as fans or fuel pump.

They may have changed it some since then, but you should call them, as I did, to get the scoop.

Dude, 15, 22 and 32 amp versions? Only enough for ignition and fans (fans are a stretch based on draw). Nothing more. In a dedicated race car it would be cool. Not for any sort of street car. Muscle cars came with 50-65 amp alternators and even those are not enough nowadays, especially if you have a stereo, Halogen headlights, Heater, a/c, etc. I like to run 80-100+ amps on the street (more depending on size of the sound system!).

Yeah, what he said. But they would be real cool if somehow amped up.
