Hey everyone,

After a long time of being asked for a subframe, the time finally arrived. We've spent quite a bit of time designing, refining/testing, and are now ready to get them on the market. We're looking at shipping in early!

The main features and benefits below but if anyone has any questions, feel free to ask them on here or send me an email ([email protected]).

Link to subframe: https://ridetech.com/product/subframe-1967-1969-camaro-firebird/

I've been in several test cars and couldn't be more excited to see this released. The engineering team did a great job putting it together and the cars drive/handle extremely well.

**** Adding information on what headers to look at below ****

We've validated fitment on these headers. I'll keep this updated as we find more that fit well.

LS engine:
Ultimate Headers (longtube) 102121
Speed Engineering (longtube) 25-1027

Small Block Chevy:
Flowtech (mid length) 31108FLT
Flowtech (longtube) 11100FLT
Hedman (longtube) 68270
Hooker (longtube) 2451HKR

There’s probably more I’m not thinking of right now, but here’s a few for you:

1) what kind of caster is this designed to run?

2) would the ride height range be similar to a stock subframe car running your coil over setup?

3) Are those C7 aluminum upper arms?

4) Can an LS engine and T56 Magnum be installed without cutting the trans tunnel? Mine is installed with the stock tunnel on the original subframe using Holley mounts.

5) Are those heim joints instead of tie rods?

1) what kind of caster is this designed to run? One of our test cars is set up as more of a cruiser, running 5* caster. The '67 we just installed the kit on hit 8* easily.

2) would the ride height range be similar to a stock subframe car running your coil over setup? 2" to 2.5" lower than factory is where everything is happy geometry wise. There is a little more room to go with this setup with the added tire clearance than a factory subframe. If the wheel and tire fitment is spot on, I'd say 3" lower is doable while keeping everything in proper geometry.

3) Are those C7 aluminum upper arms? No. We machine our own billet arms for this.

4) Can an LS engine and T56 Magnum be installed without cutting the trans tunnel? Mine is installed with the stock tunnel on the original subframe using Holley mounts. If you made it fit in the tunnel with a stock subframe, there's no reason it wouldn't work in ours, as the engine is in the stock location. I'm sure your tunnel clearance is tight now but as long as you have the proper engine/transmission angle and it works, I'd let it rip.

5) Are those heim joints instead of tie rods? The outer tie rods use a heim and tie rod stud in the spindle. The inner tie rods are standard Fox Body ones.

The reason I asked about the trans tunnel is that DSE requires cutting the tunnel if you use their subframe. The Holley clamshell mounts most of us use on stock subframe cars allow it to fit without cutting. It’s tight like you said, but with all your front suspension and 4-link on it my driveline angles are good. It’s the guys that go really low that seem to have issues.

A couple more questions I thought of:

1) Any weight differences vs a stock subframe setup?

2) Have any headers been test fitted on it with an LS engine? I have a set of Ultimate Headers I bought to work with the TruTurn.

2) Have any headers been test fitted on it with an LS engine? I have a set of Ultimate Headers I bought to work with the TruTurn. There is way more header clearance with this subframe. The Ultimate's will clear by a mile (they were one of the mock up headers when we designed it).

Josh@Ridetech

10” with a 275 fits with absolutely no modifications to outer or inner fenders. Modified or aftermarket inner fenders will allow up to a 315 depending on wheel fitment.

I’m really liking what I see. Do you know which LS oil pans were used for test fitment? The Holley mounts that allow me to fit my 6 speed without tunnel surgery mount the engine lower than stock I believe. It would be nice to know if the typical 3.5-4 degrees of engine angle can be done without cutting. I figure an LS and 6 speed will be a popular choice for guys wanting this subframe.

Any of the Holley pans will fit easily. I have the 302-3 on my car and it’s nowhere close to the crossmember. You can set your engine/trans angle at that, however, -2 to -3 is a more desirable target for any setup. From what I’ve seen over the years, it’s more common to see the tunnel modifications than it is to see a steep engine/trans angles. I hate having any chance of vibrations.

Thanks! I don't see there being any header issues to be honest on this one. They clear all of the SBC and LS longtubes by a mile on all of our test cars.

I have one of the Mast swap pans, so a lot like the low profile Holley. I just looked at my notes from when I put the 4 link in, and I ended up with about 2 degrees of u-joint operating angle front and rear. Engine angle is at 3.1 degrees, and the car is nice and smooth at triple digit speeds. I know I could reduce the angles by cutting the tunnel, but I’d like to avoid it since my car has almost all its original sheet metal. I guess I’m just trying to figure out if it’ll be doable if I swap out the subframe.

We haven't used the DSE rack but the subframe is designed for use with a stock Fox Body Mustang rack (any aftermarket Fox rack will work as long as it's to OE sizes/fitment). We've been using the PSC RA33500 and really like it. I have the same one on my car and it feels great (I had the Borgeson box on the stock subframe and the new setup feels tighter/more responsive).

We've been using Borgeson u-joints with the 3/4" DD shaft. We have an adapter setup that works with the factory column already (link here: https://ridetech.com/product/1965-1978-f-100-steering-u-joint-kit-for-stock-column-to-79-93-mustang-rack/). If you have an aftermarket column, it'd just need the u-joint with the proper diameter/spline count adapted down to a 3/4" DD shaft.

On the shocks, we'll have our typical HQ and TQ coilovers and shockwaves as an option. We're using our 3.6" stroke shock and see right around 5" of total wheel travel.

090221DS is the part number for the DSE fox rack and pinion. All fox racks are 3/4-36 spline. There are some SN95 racks that are 17mm V in case anyone runs into that.

There is supposed to be a quick ratio rack coming from DSE for the fox bodies that I assume would apply here as well.

Yep, just took a picture of one of our guy's '67 at lunch. His is sitting around 2" lower than factory. I'll post up some of my Firebird and another guy's '68 Camaro when I get a chance (they're both sitting around the 2.5"-3" mark lower than factory).

No sir. We let the customer pick out their own rack so they can pick out the brand and ratio that they want. On the shocks, we have our single and triple adjustable coilovers, and the single or triple adjustable Shockwaves as options. These are the main reasons they're not included. Just leaving the end user to fine tune their build and get exactly what they want.

I was able to use the one's that I built for my factory subframe, I just tweaked a couple of the bends. It wasn't different enough that I had to redo them completely.

So, running a 19" by 10" front rim with a 275 tire will be no problem? 6.5" back spacing. I want to pre-order rims and tires. Will I be able to drop the front as low as I want?

That should be just fine, the only difference would be overall diameter clearances. Being the same width/backspace, it'll have all of the same turning capabilities. If you keep something that's 25.5" to 26" overall diameter tire, there would be virtually no difference in our test cars and the size you're wanting to use. The only other factor you would want to look at is if the brakes you choose change track width at all (Wilwood/Baer/etc all mention any changes that their kits will have).

275/35/19

In a perfect world, you're safer getting the suspension and brakes fit on the car and then measuring for the wheels. A 275/35-19 is ~26.6" tall vs a 275/35-18 being ~25.6" so clearance will be tighter for sure if that's the tire size you want to run. You may end up needing to modify the inner wheelhouse to fit that tall, however, it would just need to be fit up on the wheels you choose to know for sure.

The front mount is really the only thing similar. Ours are completely bolt in and the whole leaf spring pocket is integrated into our subframe connector, making it more rigid in all the areas that are prone to flex/move. Those slide over the rear frame rails and have to be welded on.

We use a 3.6" stroke shock on ours. If you have to buy one pair of coilovers anyway, I would definitely look into using our HQ series in the front and rear. The monotube design is going to work much nicer on the street and track (and have a longer life span plus a 1,000,001 mile warranty)

I'm not exactly sure what parts you're referring to. Are you talking about the body bushings by chance?

https://ridetech.com/product/67-81-camaro-subframe-bushing-kit/

If so, they're not included with the subframe. We leave them as an option. The subframe is designed to be used with stock height body bushings so if a guy already has new rubber or stock height solid bushings, they can be reused. However, we do have our delrin/aluminum combo above if they're needed.

The "frame mounts" are welded to the crossmember, you just need to motor mount brackets that bolt to the engine (more info on those below).
The studs that the rack slides onto are welded into the crossmember as seen in the picture below:

215910

We have motor mounts available for different engines:

LS: https://ridetech.com/product/motor-mounts-ls-1967-1969-camaro-ridetech-subframe/
Small and big block Chevy: https://ridetech.com/product/motor-mounts-sb-bb-chevy-1967-1969-f-body-ridetech-subframe/

As far as the racks go, we leave that open to the customer to choose what brand and ratio they want. There are alot of options available from many different brands, it's hard to stock all possible options unfortunately.

You're welcome! With that small of a weight change, I don't believe changing the springs from the rate you start with will really be needed. I don't think it's enough weight that will cause a difference, however, springs are cheap and changing them isn't hard either so it's always an option!

Hi Josh, just asked as ajs1luv refers to his 68 Camaro vert

He was asking about Subframe connectors. The one's that we build do not fit a convertible car due to floor bracing in different locations than a hard top car. The subframe itself will work just fine.

Josh, which headers work best with the Ridetech Subframe? Ultimate Header's, Speed Engineering? Are there other brands that are compatible? Please advise.
For an LS, the Ultimate's fit the best by far.

We have also fit up Speed Engineering but I have seen some the consistency vary a little on those and took some taps with a hammer. The Hooker Blackheart's are a no-go, the second tube on the driver's side occupies the same place as the steering shaft does. I'm positive there are other longtubes that fit but there are so many options now it's hard to try them all. A mid-length is also an option as they're all more of a "swept back" design.

The headers could potentially be modified, however, it'd be easier to change to a set that fits (Ultimate, a mid length set, etc).

The subframe connectors on a convertible are will not work. If you bought them through a dealer of ours, you can set up a return with them and get your money back as long as they're new in the box. Our dealers should know they don't fit (it's also notated on the website).

I have some Ls blackhearts for sale as well!

As of today, these are the part numbers that I know will work for LS and SBC engines:

LS engine:
Ultimate Headers (longtube) 102121
Speed Engineering (longtube) 25-1027

Small Block Chevy:
Flowtech (mid length) 31108FLT
Flowtech (longtube) 11100FLT
Hedman (longtube) 68270
Hooker (longtube) 2451HKR

As we validate more fitments, I'll try to keep you all updated.

What modifications would have to be made to use a stock style z-bar set up?
Is it even feasible?

Sorry, didn't see that question pop up.

No modifications needed. We have our own bracket for cars wanting to reuse the z-bar.

Josh, will there ever be optional upgraded billet aluminum spindle offered for this subframe?

At the moment, we don't have any in the works but we're always looking at things we can do/upgrade. I wouldn't write that option off, it could be a thing in the future.

Please consider offering a C7 brake option for the upright. Too few do these days.

Actually, now that I look at it, the brake bracket appears to be modular, and could potentially be replaced with a bracket drilled for C7 caliper. The only question would be if there is sufficient clearance at the OD of the spindle center section to use the C7 caliper. The C7 caliper mounts closer to the centerline of the hub.

Josh, will the engine sit lower than stock subframe height, with the Ridetech subframe? If so, how much lower?
