steering box advice

Grand Cherokee Steering Box
I want to use a Lee or DSE or ATS etc steering box but they are out of my budget. After reading here I found out several people are using the Jeep box, and that is probably more in line with my budget. I was wondering what year(s) I should be looking for. Thanks for all replys.

I used a 91’ Firebird box. Excellent cheap upgrade. Fittings are metric though.

used and parts store reman boxes are a crapshoot. better off doing it once - is borgeson in the budget?

I used the 96 GC steering gear in my 68 Chevelle. Make sure to use your existing Pitman Arm and read up on how to correctly adjust the GC gear before you put it in the car.

How could that possibly be in the budget? The quick turn box from them is $411 plus $225 core charge plus shipping a steering box two directions.

The Borgeson box is $470 shipped at Summit.

My vote is for the Borgeson box all day long. They're a great quality piece and the company is great to work with.

Lee boxes are made to order, lower volume, and better quality parts. All of which adds cost.

They're great boxes if you want the best feel, and probably a better ratio. But not needed if your plan is only mainly street.

Every Lee box I buy was without a doubt the best money I ever put into any of my cars. My 69 el Camino has the brand new Lee bluprinted Saginaw 800, 14:1 ratio set at 30 pounds, Mark spec'd it for me. I have a Grant 13" steering wheel. I have the Sevitske stage 3 front end with Howe ball joints, amazingly smooth. Snaps back to center harder than any manual box I ever drove.

Spohn adjustables on the rear four link with there big Delsphere sphericals.

I'm running +7.20 drivers side and +8 passenger side positive caster, zero camber with zero toe. My car goes down the road lazer straight. I find static camber really screws with straightaway feel. I set alignment by feel, I do set it in the exact same spot on my driveway. You really should learn how to set your cars alignment yourself. It makes a world of difference and you save big bucks for things like Lee boxes, Hellwig swap bars and Howe ball joints.

I use 15 x 7 stock rally wheels with 225/70r15 Cooper Mastercraft Avengers tires along with the stock GM A body disc / drum brake system, its an excellent system once you bring the rear drum brakes into service by removing those self adjusters and adjust them manually.
