So I've got a brake thread going here
https://www.pro-touring.com/threads/141612-Need-whole-new-brake-package-for-1970-A-body-looking-for-input

My 1970 Olds 442 LS/T-56 swap project got put on the backburner for waaaaay too long after changing careers
So I'm balanced back out I'm trying to pick it back up and finish this summer.
Just got the motor & trans reinstalled with Holley mounts & crossmember

I went with a LS/T-56 swap, and I've got a complete rewire being done also.
Now I need to focus on the front suspension, and I'm looking for input to see what the best options are.

I've got 17" Foose rims up front and 18" in the rear, so I've been told the C5/C6 regular brakes are the biggest I can go up front,
and a 9" dual diaphragm booster with 1" bore Wilwood. I'm not going to be racing the car, or autocross, just looking for the best
options for street cruising and the occasional screwin around.

I did all SC&C UCA's and Hotchkis TVS in my 2nd gen Camaro, so this is more of a cruiser with Vintage Air AC ideally.
I'm looking at the A/F/X spindles to use the C5-C7 hubs, so I'm just curious what my options are that just work, and are known to work correctly.

You could just use the Kore3 brackets if you want to stay with the factory style spindle. Tobin is great to deal with. I am in a similar situation with my 69 cutlass vert. Ended up ordering all Kore3 kits for front and rear yesterday. If you look in the tech section, he has the caliper fitment templates to see if those brakes will work with your wheels.

Yes, he gave me that option , or upgrade to the new A/F/X spindle with the newer Vette hubs and save $700. I kinda liked the idea of upgrading to the modern spindle and hubs Vs keeping the old style since its nearly a wash

I just have to decide whose spindles Im buying
He rec’d Speedstech, but $1400 just for the spindles is costly Vs the others

I got the AFX spindles for my 2nd gen Fbody also when I did the C5 upgrade
I just cant remember from which vendor

For just a cruiser you can use the CPP spindle and add a good bearing. I almost went that route but ended up going with the full DSE bolt on package that included the spindle. Ridetech also offers an AFX spindle with a new style bearing. The speedtech spindle is nice as well.

Hard to beat the ridetech street grip package for a street car, also the CPP spindles with C7 hubs are a great bang for your buck to use the c5/6 brakes.

I put the street grip package on a 71 olds a few years ago. The rear springs were way too tall and I ended up using UMI springs. I concluded the Olds cars used a different length spring than Chevelles. And yes Ridetech reimbursed me for the UMI springs…

There is also a couple of different styles of lower control arm bushings. If you have the oval bushings you will need to find some control arms with large or small round bushings. It’s a bit of a PITA….

YMMV,
Don

This is what I ended up ordering for now.

I see I'm a bit late in the thread but I used and liked this guy for front brakes on my 68 Chevelle using stock drum spindles. I got the 13" rotors that fit my 18" wheels.
