I drove from Oklahoma, through Kansas, over to Colorado, through Wyoming and on to Idaho. Why should anyone care? Just the towns off the major interstates had so many friggin' cars just sitting in people's yards. Surprisingly enough, for snow country, what I saw wasn't a bunch of rust held together by paint, but actual intact cars that are in demand around here, and wouldn't need a lot to bring back. I told the wife several times on that trip that I could spend the rest of my life just going to Kansas with a trailer to drag cars back home, and put them on this site for sale, untouched, and I could probably make a fortune. I saw dozens of Chevy square body trucks, old muscle cars, you name it and they were out there. I even saw cars I couldn't identify but have similar lines to other US made cars. Year range would be probably 1930s to 1980s. Outside this range I really don't give a crap about, for all that my main project is newer than this :hmm:. It really looked like when people replaced their cars, they just put the old one in the back yard or a field rather than trade or dispose of them. Specifically saw a 70 Chevelle in Russell Kansas north of I70 on the same road the Sonic was on, but I don't know if it was an SS or just a Malibu.

Anyway, I thought I'd mention it here that if anyone wants a new project, grab a trailer and head that way. You'll probably find something new to play with. My path was I35 to Kansas, avoiding the toll road, up to I70, then up I25 to I80 to Ogden, up some side road to I84 and into Boise.

Watch out for the : "not for sale" . "Going to restore it someday". "Get off my lawn"

Lots of good rigs still out there especially from Idaho east and south until you get to Colorado. Mostly because they are just too far away from anything for people to go get. Biggest gold mine of old cars I'm aware of in the west is L&L classics in Wendell Idaho. Pretty much everything you can think of its just in the middle of nowhere, so it doesn't get picked over. Roadkill picked up their Pontiac T-37 project from there a few years back.
