I know that spraying metallics at different air pressures can change the shade of the color. My understanding is that this is a result of the metallic laying differently due to differing air pressures. My question is, if you are doing a final drop coat then does the pressure of the previous coats still make a difference?
This is for the engine compartment on my Fox Body coupe. The car is a fairly dark metallic silver. Paint is Sikkens AutoBase Plus. Sikkens calls for 1 medium coat, one intermediate coat & then a drop coat when spraying metallic. I plan to do a few spray outs before doing the car and want to know what different variables I should try. My wife was kind enough to throw away my paint formula so I will be having my local supplier shoot it with their camera. Since it is just the engine bay I will be using a cheap HVLP with a 1.3 tip. I plan at a minimum do one spray out with a drop coat & one without. Also, am I correct in thinking that an "intermediate coat" is just a normal wet coat going over the first coat?
