Bilstein would be my go to for what you're looking for. I just ran KYB Gas-A-Just shocks in my car for 6 years and really liked them but they give a more factory ride. Just pulled them and switched to QA1 coil overs, nice being able to dial in ride differences when I want.

Another vote for Bilstein here as well. I have ran them on a range of vehicles over the years (e30, Miata, Escalade), and they always gave me great results.

I vote Bilstein for street use. Inexpensive, and they work well. You would need a little more shock for a stiff spring car that's autocrossing but even then, they aren't bad.
Be aware if you don't have gas shocks now, the rear gas shocks will raise the rear by 1/2" due to the gas pressure. No difference in front due to the leverage of the A arm.

I have Bilstines on my 69 el Camino. Good performance! My car stays level on some deep turns and we have some real fun roads here in Western Pa and West Virginia..

Bilsteins also for me. I've run both Qa1 coil-overs and Umi springs with Bilstein shocks on my Pontiac and unless you're going extreme the difference is negligible. Next step up that people seem to like are Konis, not much more than the Bilstins and you get to add some adjustability, although you have to take them off the car to make adjustments.
