View Full Version : What to do about surface rust in an overlapping spotwelded seam
On my C10 roof, the seam sealer cracked around the outer perimeter inside of the rain gutter. This allowed some water in there. I have removed the seam sealer and there is some surface rust in the area. I figure it is inside of the sandwhiched metal as well. What would you do?

Deep corrosive rust or just light surface rust? If it’s deep corrosive rust you pretty much need to remove the roof skin to get access. If it’s just mild surface rust you might be able to spot blast it and flood with epoxy primer. I’m not a fan of rust fixes in a can…

Not what I would call deep rust but not light either. It was enough to start lifting the seam sealer in a couple small spots.
What do you think about cleaning everything possible and then lightly pouring epoxy into this seam and brushing off any excess? Do you think it would cure properly?

That is what I was suggesting above. The epoxy will cure. At least the SPI epoxy I use will cure. It sands nice too.
