Glad to have found this forum. My car is a 1980 Corvette L48 TH350. It was bought brand new by my father in 1980 and passed down to me in 2016 when he passed away. I kept it in heated storage, did a few parades and shows around 2017-18, but never did much else with it. The tires were over 20 years old, cracking and starting to lose air and it got to the point that I was nervous to drive it. Finally, this year I finally decided to pull it out of storage and start working on it. This car has been around my entire life and is very sentimental so I wanted to modify it in a way that made it more fun to drive while also staying true to the original character of the car.
This year I installed 18" alloy Rallye-style wheels, QA1 coilovers, 10" rear lowering bolts, Corvette Central exhaust and a TKX manual transmission swap from Silver Sport Transmissions. Some maintenance was done such as fluids, rebuilt front-end, rebuilt rear trailing arms, all new door rubbers and many other small fixes and repairs to get it in good usable shape.
It took me the entire summer driving season to complete it, so it was finished just in time for winter storage. I did have a few weeks to drive the car and I have to say the result was worth the effort and expense and I am looking very forward to getting it out in the spring. The next hurdle is to do something with the engine which is what brings me here. I intend to keep it a small block, likely a 383 crate engine. I am torn between keeping the engine factory looking, or update it with a more minimal look.
