Just signed up. Been lurking here for many years. Was time to sign up because I have some questions due to my car build I am starting.
30 yrs ago I bought a 66 mustang A sedan race car. it was a race car since the late 1960s and had been wrecked so many times the guy who owned it welded a front end from a fastback car to a rear notch back body. It was done poorly so I junked the body.
Life happened and I never did anything with all the parts but.. kept them.
Now I am retired and want to make something of it so thinking it over and realized building a stock bodied car would never satisfy me. I want better & faster then that platform can provide.
Ended up buying an ASA stock are chassis and plan to put a 67 mustang body on it and build it into a vintage style trans am car.
So eventually I am going to have to pony up some serious bucks for a transmission. since my boss 302 from my A sedan mustang is only going to be putting out like 450 hp in vintage form I don't think I will be to hard on the transmission.
Read the post here about a guy in Sweden who used a ZF 8HP transmission from a BMW in an old dodge with a 440 and made his own adapter. Way cool exactly what I want to do. Sad he used a Jaguar version of the ZF 8HP transmission but there in the EU they are plentiful.
Why sad he used a Jaguar version? He did the machinist thing and took a ton of measurements. Those measurements do not transfer over to the USA Dodge Ram bolt pattern version of the ZF 8HP transmission. Ok.. I see there are companies who are building adapters, cool. Except no one is doing ford small block adapters uncool.
So, I can't be the only ford small block guy who would like to do this, adapt a ZF 8HP transmission to fit the vintage small block ford.
So if any one who is ever considered doing this wants collaborate or knows the dodge ram version of this transmission dimensions please contact me. If I obtain the measurements for the adapter and build one for my car, I can build more.
