Pulling the L76, 365 h.p. solid lifter motor from my 1964 Corvette. The motor is all stock, Its just being pulled to facilitate all new seals and gaskets as while it runs strong, it leaks from pretty much everywhere. I'm also installing a TKX 5 speed.

My questions is, the factory balancer on the high horsepower 327s in the C2 Corvettes all came with 8 inch harmonic balancers. Id like to replace the original piece with a new ATI or comparable balancer that has the timing marks etched, and clearly visible in the body of the balancer. The guys at ATI recommended their 7 inch balancer, part #917785 and of course, everyone on the Corvette forum claims the world will end immediately if anything other than OEM/NOS parts are used. So does anyone with more working knowledge of small block chevys, and balancer requirements have any input or suggestions?

Thanks!

I have a solid lifter 67 corvette 327 engine, and it runs a summit racing SFI balance for a SBC, believe its the bracket racer model. Its been on this engine for 20 years and hasn't been an issues. I would think any balancer made for a internal balance SBC should work on your setup.

Thanks for the response....just curious, do you happen to know the diameter of the balancer you're running?
