Hey guys,

Some of you may know this but for those that don't, the Toyo Proxes are a pretty popular tire for pro touring rigs. I just slapped a set of 315/35/17's on my car and was pretty shocked by how much wider they are than the Kumho Ecstas that were being replaced.

The R888R's were a good 3/4" to an 1" wider than the Kuhmho's. My car has alot of rear tire under it for not having tubs, what most consider to be the max. So when I saw them I choked a little. Good news is no rubbing yet, but I haven't pushed the car either.

For those that are switching to a Toyo, at least the R888R, take into consideration a minimum of 3/4" extra width on that tire.

Any chance you can measure the actual width and what rim width they are on?

Do the R888's show a wider spec vs Kuhmo's? I have seen that before on tires for my Miata, but it was on that much when it was only a 195 width tire.

A friend had 315 Kuhmo's on his Trans Am & they were about the same width as a set of 285 BFG's & 1" narrower than my 315 Drag Radials.

I would blame the old tires not the new ones for the size discrepancy.

The guy at the tire shop said that Toyo's and Michelin's run larger than alot of the other tires out there. I don't have direct comparisons but he said they were larger. I have also heard this on other forums but didn't pay that much attention till it was my turn to swap out rubber. It's just worth asking when you go to put new sneakers on your ride to see if the tire you are replacing runs a bit large. Especially if you are trying to max out the tire width on your car.

They were both showing the same size 315/35/17, but the Toyo was 3/4" minimum wider.

Yeah, I had the same experience. 265/30/18 BFG KDW cleared no problem on my car. 265/35/18 Toyo R888R was a totally different story. Its wider for sure but the tire is also way more square.
