Dakota Digital Cruise Control Surging

I've got a Dakota Digital CRC-2000 cruise control (rebranded Rostra) for a DBW LS3 in my '68. It's working, but I get some mild surging. Dakota says the surging results from the throttle being too sensitive and suggests I have the excessive throttle sensitivity tuned out in HP Turners.

Has anyone done this? Any bad effects on the rest of the car's performance?

Haven't had that issue so I can't help but calling Rostra directly has been useful for me in the past when I wasn't getting the answer I needed from DD.

My Camaro was doing exactly the same thing.

Call Dakota and ask to speak with TJ.

It's something in the settings that he helped me change, was long time ago so don't recall.

The changes we made did help, it's pretty good on flat roads but surges going up and down hills.

I built a 71 c10 with 5.3 cable throttle and bought a vintage cruise control I found on Ebay or 85.00
It was a brand new NOS cruise called Escort from probably 35 years ago.
It works like a charm.
Wish I had one in the Camaro.

Wanted to see what you said before I replied as I thought jnkey was talking about a cable drive unit.

The DBW stuff can act weird if the speed signal isn't rock solid and super clean. Is your tire diameter and gear ratio correct in the ECU?

I don't even know what sensitivity you would tune out.......maybe pedal vs actual throttle but I don't know why that would matter.

Interesting. Any delay in that signal relative to “real time” could cause the overshoot you are seeing. The longer the delay the larger the overshoot. I am guessing it is delayed.

Yep, I am surprised DD didn't question that. Get the speed signal from the ECU and I bet it works perfect.

It's a long, sad story. I've got a Viper T56 that uses a VSS that needs a +5VDC exciter signal. Tried to rig something up; gave up; installed GPS speedo because that was all the VSS was needed for, until now. I'll dive back into the Viper VSS and see what I can learn.

Thanks. Troubleshooting the Viper VSS will be a winter project. But I'll keep this in mind.

Aren't all the VSS sensors the same physical dimensions? Hoping you can just use one from a Camaro that bolts in..

As for DBC setups, use factory S10/blazer or Silverado cruise control modules, just needs +12v, ground, vss signal, and 2 buttons for set/decel and accel. Also fits directly into throttle cable bracket and throttle blade cam.
