View Full Version : Transmission drive mode signalling…

Hello fellow PT’ers

Posting this as a new topic in electrical section as I was unable to find a similar thread/post and none of the other groups had overlap.

The issue I am having concerns setting up the Dakota GS-3000 drive mode signalling mechanism. The one that mounts to the automatic transmission pan. It appears to be a rotary encoder of sorts to signal the DD control box based on position of the gear detent.

I have an m40 in my GTO (TH400) but run an aftermarket B&M shifter. The GS-3K has a rod-end and fixture plate the mounts of the detent itself. However, in my scenario I am uncertain whether trying to bolt in DDs fixture plate and rod-end will even fit, much less provide signalling. [emoji15]

Further, my install already has dowels to move the cable mounting plate away from the trans pan - so once again unsure if the plate to hold the rotary encoder will even bolt up?

A couple of pics - to help illustrate.

207913 pic of trans/cable linkage as it is today.
207914 a 2nd pic from the underside (bolts are Allen key type).
207915 DDs GS-3000 kit - fixture plate is the small triangular piece in the middle row - dead center (smallest piece). There are other brackets that may work.

Hoping someone may have a solution I can adapt or utilize.

Many thanks!

Hello all,

Okay I figured out my issue! Speaking w/the good folks at Dakota Digital, they noted that the brackets (as supplied) are generally for stock/OE shifter cable/bracket setups.

My application uses a B&M Pro-Stick and an aftermarket neutral safety switch (NSS).

I simply removed the NSS which opened up sufficient room to mount the rotary encoder. I just need to finalize the wiring - including hooking up the NSS into the ignition circuit and connecting the backup lights.

Here are some update (in progress) pics…

Further follow-up to this issue...

I have the GSS-3000 working 'absolutely' great in the GTO.

Dakota Digital (DD) VHX gauges correctly display current 'drive mode' (when M40 is shifted)
I fabricated my own DD rod-end connector** (attached to B&M/Holley's swivel) -> now the rod-end of GSS-3000 moves smoothly when trans is shifted
I removed all neutral safety switches from my transmission and shifter - the source of truth for the GTO is the GSS-3000

Clarification: the GSS-3K now functions as my NSS -> the vehicle will not start unless trans is in Neutral OR Park
the GSS-3K also operates the backup lights - when the shifter is in reverse

** - if folks are interested in a swivel/rod-end connector, my company ARDUN Technologies (https://arduntechnologies.com) is considering selling a production version. This would work interoperably with a B&M shifter (e.g. ProStick) and provide error-free (and non-binding) drive-mode signals from the GSS-3K - e.g., to your DD gauge cluster. Please DM me and let me know your interest in such a product.

Many thanks,
Brian.
