Spray Foam insulation for a metal building.

I have a metal building, rather large, 20ft center, but basically 40x40, 2 12ft doors and 1 10ft, I'm in Florida, and when it was built, I had a guy who was going to spray inside the roof for $1200, I was baited!!!! his estimates were low, mid, high, depending on the "R" rating, just to say I didn't contract with him due to his prices were astronomical!!!!

His high price was the cost of the building! over 20K for insulation! no,

So of course living in Florida where its always hotter than hell, June through November, I'm wanting to spray foam the inside roof, cant really call it a ceiling, cut down on the heat and noise, hard rain will drive you to hearing protection!!

Anyone use any type of spray foam on a metal building?? pro's, con's, certain type to use?, I've heard of the foam causes rust! any InSite on this topic will help,

Welllll I have a 30x40x14 (metal building, no wood, and not red iron.. car port style) and the best value I found was $10k.
2" on ceiling, 1.5" on walls.

I can't recall what the R value was but boy... I can tell you it made a huge difference! I went over a year without it before getting it. I have an 8x8 and 12x12 non-insulated roll up and even with those its noticably different. I am in SC so that similar southern climate.

I have not heard of anything with rust. It seems to bond pretty well to the walls. I looked at doing panels but even those were pricey.
I guess the material is super expensive.. but it only took 2 guys about 2 days to do it all. I of course had the building mostly empty.

Not sure if I could swallow the 20k price tag either but just like anything, buy once cry once! Lol

I'm in Florida too. I looked at spray insulation for my building, but after considering my needs, went with conventional.
Closed cell foam is about 5-6R per inch. What makes spray foam work well is its ability to seal all air infiltration in the building envelope. So if you were plaining to spray foam the entire structure and air condition, then probably the easiest option. I say easy because you can achieve the same seal and R value with batt, but it's going to take more time and careful installation, i.e. your going to have to do it yourself to make sure it's done right.
If you are just doing the roof, then it becomes just an insulation, and batt insulation will do the same at way less money.
The thing I didn't like about spray foam, besides the price, is the flammability. I throw a lot of sparks in my shop!

I have heard that the rust issue is if you have A/C and spray foam on a metal building. Not sure if it is correct but I have read it in several places.

It is worth it if done correctly. My shop roof was done in foam with conventional batting in the walls. It heats up in the winter about 5 degrees just from me working in it. AC is a split system ( in SC) and has added about $10/month to our power bill. ~ 1000 sq ft shop with a 2nd 1000 sq ft second floor that is used for storage.

Thanks, I'd love to do an A/C system, but the house needs one first, old, but your monthly addition to the bill is awesome, doable and pretty cheap,
