just got in my 502 crate engine..IT IS NOT THE ZZ502..but the long block 502 with the cast iron heads.IE;TRUCK LONG BLOCK REPLACMENT.
question?...it says its a oval port head design but they look square to me,smaller than a normal square port but def not oval?
i have a oval port edelbrock intake i need to use for hight issues...what intake gasket can some one recomend...oval like the older 454s or the gen 6..200 and newer 454?
same quaestion concerning the exhaust gaskets...all the headers are round, but again these look to be small square?
any help appreciated.
gm engine part number...88890534 ht502gm cyclinder heads it comes with.
Cylinder Heads (P/N 12562917): Iron oval port; 118-cc chambers

That engine uses Peanut Port heads, which are much smaller than the typical oval port heads. I would call Edelbrock to confirm which gaskets would work with that intake. Keep in mind that the ports in the heads will be smaller than the intake.
This engine can easily make 600HP with a modest cam and head upgrade.

Andrew, had to read that twice, "head upgrade" I was like 600 with peanut heads. something he knows for sure! one of my 454's had peanuts heads, that thing would get to 5600rpm and throw out the anchor!!! lol

For your oval port Edelbrock intake, you will need intake gaskets specifically designed for oval port heads. These gaskets are typically compatible with older 454 engines or the Gen 6 454 engines from 200 and newer.
Similarly, for the exhaust gaskets, you'll need gaskets that match the square port heads on your engine.
To ensure the right fit and avoid any leaks or compatibility issues, it's best to consult with an automotive parts specialist or contact the manufacturer directly to confirm the correct intake and exhaust gasket specifications for your specific engine (GM part number 88890534 HT502).
Remember, using the appropriate gaskets will help ensure optimal performance and reliability for your engine setup. Good luck with your project, and I hope it turns out to be a powerful and enjoyable ride!
