I am going to be starting my restoration on my 69. Just wanted to know if anyone out there has built a rotisserie for their restoration? Where is the best place for the mounting points?

What about buying one? Does anyone know any good places out there?

Thanks,

Trevor

I built one this summer.
I'm going to bolt mine to the body mounts up front and probably to the shackle mounts in the rear, although I have also seen them secured to the to the rear bumper mounts.

Trevor, here's a link (http://www.mgbexperience.com/rotator/) to the one I will be building this winter. This has very detailed instructions and can be built for a fraction of the cost of a pre-built one. This is the same one jp uses for his 'II Much' Chevy II buildup, look in the cars section for pics. Hope this helps!! :)

i thought about buying 2 engine stands and extending the uprights (adding angled supports also)
extending all 3 legs of each engine stand also. And then fabbing some sort of bar to bolt to the car that has a round tube in the center to go into the engine stand so the car can be rotated.
heck, i've seen some of those engine stands hold fully built big block, so they should definetly hold the weight of a bare bodyshell of 67-69 camaros and 62-74 novas..... :icon996:

you know you might save money now but eventually the hospital bills WILL catch up to you. The legs on them engine stands are questionable as is. I still get nervous with a fully assembled BB on my stands. A 2 legged stand that zbugger kidnapped.

it was just a thought i had been tossing around in my head. :dunno:
i can easily pick up a rotisserre from a guy that sells them on ebay, he is only like a 45 minute drive from me. so no shipping would be involed.
oh yeah....$695 for one too ! :seizure:
here is a link to one of his ended auctions......looks pretty stout to me. :icon996:

i've seen that around I think, at the Pomona car show. Looks pretty good. I wanna build mine with 1 ton hydraulic rams on each end to lift and level the vehicle. You need one!

I thought i would share even though a bit late.

I just made one for my 69 convert i am doing at this time.

I found a article in High Performance Pontiac showing how to out of "2 HD engine stands" WORKS LIKE A CHARM and spins easily by myself.

I even used the wench to pull it on the trailer ( WITH THE CAR ON IT ) and took it to the sandblaster.... He was happy and cheaper i might add.

OH , and i only have $280.00 in it.
and a weekend to build.

Heres a breakdown.

2 hd engine stands ( New at swapmeet) $50.00 Ea. - $100.00.
4 6ft lengths of 1 1/2 angle iron from Meanrds $8 ea - $ 32.00.
2 4ft 1" round tubes at Menards aprox $6.00 ea. - $12.00.
I OVERBOUGHT - 10 2 ft 3"x3" 1/8 wall total - $75.00.
3 6" swivel pneumatic wheels Harbor tool $8.00ea -$24.00.
2 6" NON swivel wheels $5.00ea -$10.00
and about $20.00 in 4 in cut off wheels . -$20.00.
and 6 GRADE 8 4" bolts around 5.00 -$ 5.00.
and 2 LG slide pins for aprox $6.00 -$6.00

$279.00 TOTAL not counting my labor.

ONE THING I WILL SAY ... you gotta trust your welding ability . NO SNOT WELDS or GORRILA welds.
Good penetration is a must.

I attached it to the front Body mounts and I personally used the rear bumper bolt area .

Hope this helps...

I can copy the article and send it if anyone would like.

Heres my car on it last week.

PS , I attached 2 lengths of chain to the rear crossbar and to the BOTTOM legs of the rotisserie to keep it stable when i transpoter it.
Just a safety issue

I can't tell you how nice it is to have one of these. To be honest, as easy as it is to put a car on one of these i can't see why everbody don't do this type of build up on their car. I mean if you look at it, after you pull the frt. clip off and the interior out. How much is left, not much!
But that is just my opinion.
Good luck, Brent

Wow 63SW, that is one of the better "engine stand" chicken cookers I have seen. I was building one from scratch, but would be a little ahead if I start with heavy duty engine stands.

Time to set the BB on the ground and cut the stand up lol.

Rotisserie is for Chicken! I prefer to lay under my car on a cold concrete floor and dodge 35 year old crud like a real man. Nothing like a trip to the optometrist to have a shard of rusty metal removed from my eye. Chicks dig eye patches. :enguard:

I had a few copies of the article printed out if anyone wants a copy just let me know and i'll send it.

Just PM me your mailing address .

:rotfl: Streetfytr68 , your right , Rotisserie is for chicken !
But i hate going to the hospital to have some overpaid fool poke me in the eye and i have a woman so dont have to impress other chiks anymore. LOL

Believe me , ive done my share of laying on the cold concrete and getting ***** in my eyes so putting the vert on the rotisserie is a pleasure !

( i wish it was a firebird ) then i could have said putting the bird on the rotisserie . LOL

The older i get the less pain i like to cause my self and painting this thing on its side is like being on a Moraphine drip- NO PAIN INVOLVED!

I'm just jealous.
