View Full Version : Caprice spindles on second gen Camaro?

Ok- has anyone heard of this conversion? to be able to run C5 brakes on the front of a second gen? Well, my question is does this have any negative affects on suspension geometry? caster/camber curves, bumpsteer, and whatnot? I havent really heard much about this conversion, so any help is much appreciated.

I got Caprice spindles (mid-90's) for my 71. Had to tap 2 of the 3 dust shield holes for a future brake caliper bracket. From what I can see, the suspension geometry is not affected, but it uses a larger outer bearing (same inner bearing and ball joints). I got 3rd Gen rotors and still haven't machined them for use as hubs because I am going with the ATS AFX spindles when they become available.

Do a Google search for Camaro C5 brake conversions and you should find more than a few very detailed writeups where people have used B-body spindles and 3rd Gen rotors for brake swaps.

Rocko....Caprice spindles and 2nd gen Camaro spindles are identical with the exception of 12" rotor Caprice spindle having a larger bearing. All the heights, steering arm, caliper mounts, and backing plate holes (the ones you need to modify to run C5 brackets) are the same. There is basically no reason to change spindles.

Oh, ok. thanks alot, Dennis. I wasn't sure. I have heard so many things, its hard to make sense of it all.
