The truck was originaly purchased just to tow my car on long trips to the dragstrip and car shows but I got carried away. It now has 18" billet wheels with 275/55/18's, a belltech lowering kit and helper airbags for towing my 9000lbs trailer. I think an STS turbo may be next.

Clean looking truck.
I checked out your web site..... Haugen's and Autofest :twothumbs :git: :headbang: .
I schedule a weeks holidays around Haugen's "Big One" (just so my employer can't screw me out of taking the day off).
Autofest is an annual ritual for my eldest son and I. Although I'm still a little bumbed out that they wouldn't let me enter my '77 Vega (too new :dunno: )

I have a 1972 International roll back at the shop that I keep eyeballing. The bed is already set up and if I play with for an hour I can get running real good (then it sits out in the field for a few months and goes to hell again). I bet I could have it if I asked, it just gets in the way at the yard.

Hmmm, I wonder what my wife would think of me bringing that home? BTW, it is the most ugly thing you have ever seen. It hasn't been tagged since 1991 and lives in a construction yard.

Damn...Your pulling a 9000lbs trailer with a half-ton with 18's. How does it pull? I use to pull my 19ft open tralier/ show truck comb with a 2wd taheo and it was ok on flat ground, but on hills it was like sittting still. I upgraded last year to a 2500HD 4door and a 24ft enclosed trailer. It pulls very well, but I'm still don't have enough power. I'm really ready to buy a diesel. If I can't pull 80 to 85 passing cars I'm not happy.

By the way very nice looking truck.

The tires are toyo Proxes St's wich are an actual load rated performance tire. I have the 5.3 2wd with a power programmer and I am happy doing 70MPH with the trailler I am not in a hurry intill I get to the dragstrip!!!!!
I must have got a good one It is decent on gas even pulling the trailler.

My 2wd got good gas mileage, just not enough power for me. It may have something to do with I pull with a bunch of old drag racers and they all have a powerstroke in their pull truck. They aren't happy if they ain't doing 80 to 90 with their ass on fire.

Hello,

I noticed this thread about a very nice Silverado.
I plan to buy one here in Europe, as i'm not satisfied with the average hauling cars. I will have VW beetles(for my job) on the trailer or my 72 Buick Skylark.
I have seen a 2002 Extended cab, V8 5,3 a 4x2 model.
My question is : is it a good truck to haul? Is the 4x4 better than the 4x2?? Do they have the same hauling weight??
Overthere you have a lot of these trucks, so i prefer to ask you to give me an advice...
Thanks a lot
David

David,
Here is my opinion. If you are using an open trailer and not hauling a lot of weight, an 02 Extended Cab 5.3 is just fine. From my experience, a 4x2 handles better when towing and a 4x4. Depends on the weight you are towing, you might consider towing bags for the rear or a load leveler system. Just remember the longer the wheel base of the tow truck, the better. JMO.

Thanks Dennis,

The weight will be from 1500kg (don't know how much lbs?) to 2300kg with my Skylark (1700kg i think). The bed will not be full, just my dog and some luggages.
I don't know if you call that "a lot of weight"?:)
Last monday i tried a 2001 GMC pick up single cab with a 4.8 V8, and it was awful...i thought it was a V6, it had a serious lack of power!!! Is the 5.3 better??a lot better or the same???:help:
I also drove a 2001 Dodge Dakota Crew cab with a 4.7 V8, this was very nice, powerfull, with quick respons but i didn't like the driving position( seat is too high) and my heart prefers GM cars....

The 5.3 will be alot better than the 4.8 liter. I'm tow with a 03 GMC HD2500 with a 6.0 liter. I'm pulling a 24ft enclosed trailer with my 65 Chevelle and it does ok. The only problem I have is on hills. If I get a good run at it, I can still top the hills at 70.

I agree that the long wheelbase makes all the difference in the world I used to tow with a regular cab and it was scary. I am happy with the 5.3L and a open trailler is deffinatly easier to pull but for the security the enclosed is the only way to go.
