Why that question, one might ask?

We make distributors for a marine engine company (they also fit Chevy small blocks) and we recently received a complaint that the distributor shaft was "harder to turn."

I can run durability testing on the distributors in question and put some maximum allowable breakaway torque value on the product data sheet but I can't help but wonder if there is actually some maximum allowable value out there from the engine designer.

IIRC, 20 ft. lbs. It's a 3/8 16 bolt or stud.

NYH1.

I am talking about the torque required to rotate the gear.
