I don't know what you guys think but I think the prices on this months Barret are going to be lower than last year. I know a lot of Americans have been helping Katrina victems and the markets haven't been great.
What do you think?
I guess we will see in a few weeks.
I personally hope the cars are worth less so I can afford to buy another one.

I would be extremely suprised if the costs will be down this year.
I think the prices will be 10-15% higher. Last years #'s drew the attention of a lot of "non-car" people (or whatever is the opposite of "car" people..). Those people will be looking to get in on the action and their lack of car knowledge and unlimited bank accounts will therefore drive the prices up across the board. I think the decline will come in the next year or two. And by decline, I mean prices will drop 15-30%. Just my 2c though....

The instant celebrity of buying a car on TV will hold prices up, IMHO! On another note, I still hear of outrageous sales all the time. As far as wishing the market lower, never! Low is bad!

YEAH BUT YOU BUILD CARS FOR A LIVING SO IT'S GOOD FOR YOU.
Don't get me wrong I like have something to fall back on if I ever fall into finacial problems. Even though I would sell my house before I sold My Z.
I personally think it's nuts when you go in and ask a paint shop how much to repaint my car and they say minimum $10K. And it's just because they know that it could be worth 70K when the car is done.

I go to Barrett every year. The prices this year will blow last years away. They expect that Pontiac to do at least $5 MILLION..maybe 10mil. The Cuda convt..which is a 70 not a 71 is going to break the bank. The tent this year is about 3 times last years size. don't bet anyone that the prices will be down..you will lose..

I read in Autoweek that they're going to be selling a Baldwin Motion Camaro at BJ. The new BM car that we saw at SEMA.

It's all over their brochures, along with the first Foose Camaro, Unique GT350 mustang

Higher baby higher. I think we will see an "adjustment" in the market one day soon, but not right now. The prices will be higher than last year.

lftnwhls has a point. The only downside to this is that every backwoods dork with a spraygun and a MIG thinks he can be just like Foose and command big $$ for his work.
It's making it awfully tough to build a car unless you are CEO of something.

Speed TV is running 'glory' shorts of the buying fever there (albeit by a select few). Add that to the 'car-guy' celebs that are showing up in greater numbers and it should help hold the mystique until the bottom really drops out of the real estate (i.e.- money) market. There are still plenty of guys out there that have done very well in real estate over the last few years, so my guess is that it will be a banner year for Craig & crew at BJ.
I still don't think that the BM Camaro has enough oomph to go over 475-500K; But I fly 30 year old turboprop aricraft for a living, what do I know?

I personally think it's nuts when you go in and ask a paint shop how much to repaint my car and they say minimum $10K. And it's just because they know that it could be worth 70K when the car is done.
Paint jobs being $10K + have nothing to do with of the value of the car. Paint cost are high because of labor, insurances, garage liability, Worker Comp, Rent rates are up because of real estate values rising so much, paint / material products just went up again 7% across the board, so a $2000 material bill is now $2200, EPA hazardous waste requirements have waste removal cost way up, equipment cost more and more. And most of all, and this is the part many will probably hate to hear, because cost of living is up, owners need to make a little more profit then last year, year after year, to maintain the same quality of life! Employees of companies get raises yearly? Shouldn't shop / business owners? Or is it our punishment to keep working for the same profit as cost of living increases?
One little terrific side benefit on the higher car values though is the fact a customer can invest $10K + in a paint job and not be upside down in the car because of the paint cost. When car values do go down, if they ever do, paint will still only get more expensive, parts will only get more expensive. So does anyone really want values to go down, so they can be upside down in a car, but be a owner? I doubt it. Does anyone want to try to pick a bottom to buy, then have the market continue down? I trade some stocks, believe me when I tell you, it's a horrible feeling watching the value of something you own deteriorate! As much as it hurts to see a stock value climb, a stock I missed out and did not buy, the pain of watching a stock, that I do not
own, rise, hurts much less then watching the value of a stock that I do own continue to plummet after I thought I picked the bottom!
I am a bit of a bargin shopper, and when I see a nice shirt that is $70 at Macy's, I will often wait a couple months until it goes down to 50% off before I buy it, because I know it will, and I know I will just wear it until one day I throw it away. That I believe is good business. These cars, or should I say, TOYS, are also investments as much as toys. Casting a hex on investment items, just so one can buy, is bad business.

They are gonna rock n roll @ Barrett, R&M, Russo Steele,..not so sure about Kruse and Silver. I think Silver would have done fine except he had to move his event to the same week-end as Barrett..that's gonna hurt. Don't think that the're not some bargains that go thru Barrett. over 1,000 cars @ real.. I repeat Real no reserve cars..some slip thru the cracks. you just gotta be sitting there when it happens. I'm usually off screwing around doin something else when it happens. Look at all the results..not just the prime time tv stuff...they only glamorize the big hit items..there will be more fine cars there that week-end for sale than any one place you will ever go.

Lemme guess: Right AFTER you buy the car, I suppose you want the values to go back up, right? You wouldn't want to LOSE money on an investment now would you?
Please don't wish for the value of my car to come down, it might come true.

lftnwhls,
If you're complaining about the cost of a 10K paint job how in the world is a 10% price fluctuation at BJ going to effect your next car purchase decision? From my experience a world class 200K vehicle is in a totally different market segment than a garage racer saving up for a 10K paint job.
I understand the barring it has on the top end of the market and the trickle down effect, however, the only difference you'll most likely see is having to negotiate an extra 10 minutes to get that $100 off the asking price from the guy selling his classic in the local paper. In my book, a lousy $100 isn't worth wishing a bear market on the industry.

Ok ok already I may have ran my mouth off about the paint. But tell me honestly how many of you will still have your car and won't be affraid to drive it if it is all of a sudden worth 200K and the perfect cars are 500K I know I would be so affriad that something would happen to it that it would stay in the garage. I already hate kids at car shows with scootersand skateboards. Mine is only appraised at $42k

This car is from around where I live and I here it is going to the BJ.
It is by far the coolest pt car I have ever seen it has the brakes interior wheels and OH yeah it runs 9's with a fuel injected 540 with a fogger setup. The car runs on pump gas and is a turn table show car. The quality of the job is second to none.

That may happen(value wise) one day, but not overnight, so don't worry about that keeping true hobbist and their cars inside quite yet.

I hate kids on skateboards around anything I own, not just my nice cars, but my not so nice ones too. In fact, I have never been to a car show that allowed them. I hear what you are saying though. It is just the risk you take.
Personally I hate people driving with no insurance more than anything cause they don't care about their junk, much less mine.

From what I have seen it looks like they have a few more cars capable of bringing the mega-high prices. The Banshee concept, the #3 Corvette, etc. etc. I think that Olds selling last year for big money opened the flood gates. Look for record highs.

Bill I dont believe that is Stuarts old car unless the person who bought it changed from Very Nice Fikse wheels to some 20 inch & 18 inch centerlines that are no where near as nice as the Fikse wheels :hmm:

i was at R&M in Monterey about 5 years ago and my car was in the line waiting to go across the block. A kid was on a skate board, and it shot out from under himn and hit the front of my car, knocking off a chip and dinged it. I told him if I saw it or him again there was going to be a killing...

Don't you tell Bob about that .32, he thinks he owns me right now. I like it that way! Shhhhh, new soliniods coming in Fed Ex tommorow, and new Goodyears mounted this morning. Track has just been to weak to run those Street tires. Then a Chris Alston subframe and aluminum block will shed 300LBs off the nose, She'll throw up a 8.99 at Gainesville for Power Tour, before the track officials throw me out, LOL!
Well be doing shut down 1/8 mile passes Sunday.

Thanks, we have some fun with this one. Michael and I built it for all my boys back in 98, Michael was 11. I thought that you having a drag / street car might like it. We showed it and raced it then. have not done much of either this last year.
Steve, can we drive it on the street? It is routinely does 100 mile round trips. It's going on Power Tour this year. It's just a 10.6 : 1 pump gas small block motor.
Here is Michael, and me shotgun, at the Daytona Turkey Run, on the speedway, back in 2000? He used to really get his rocks off driving it around at 14. Of coarse I mean at the race track of on the show grounds.

Lftn whls, this car could be a daily driver, I personally have seen it since it was completed, it's always on the street, it goes like hell, very straight,
Frank told me acouple years ago he wore out a set of Et Streets driving around town,
Here in Orlando, you always find fast cars on the street, a benefit of the weather, I suppose,,
I dove my nova, which only has run a 12:20 untuned shifting @6200, round trip about 100 miles for mothers day, I really realized it needs a real exhaust system WITH tail pipes!! how do you like that Frank!! so yes it streetable!!!

I gotta say, I have not seen many cars that I would consider "pro-touring" at BJ (on tv). Of course that could change tomorrow. A LOT of original or resto originals bringing big bucks tonight. In the midst of all these awesome cars, they bring out the first PT car I have seen and it topped out at 60k I think it was. 71 Mopar convertible with V10 Viper and all the pro touring stuff. Not a high dollar PT perhaps, but it must have cost much more than 60k to build. It was a little disappointing. I think the guys who are willing to pay the big bucks are looking for the "real deal"s and not what they may consider a passing fad. I hope I am wrong as I love the PT idea. There is nothing better than the classic lines with modern features. But then again, I may be caught up in the fad? At any rate, it makes me sad to see cars like the originals going for so much (69 Z28 brought 205k!) because it means I will most likely never be able to afford one of my own. :(
