View Full Version : What are the limiting factors on tire size for the front of a DSE 69 Camaro?
I have a 69 camaro with a DSE subframe. I do not have any wheels or tires whatsoever so I can't experiment. I know that DSE lists a 275 as the max tire size. I recently watched a video of one of DSE's cars that has 315's on the front. I have not been able to find any information on what mods were done to allow this. I would love to fit a 295 or preferably a 305 on mine if no body work is involved. I am wondering what hits first, second, etc on this setup with a wide tire. I am familiar with modding the fender lip to be more vertical along with modifying the inner fender in this location and have also seen the speedtech and Anvil inner fenders. I have also seen stock subframes where guys will notch the frame for a relief to allow the tire to turn. I am not opposed to doing either of these but I don't know how much this will actually buy me or if the frame notch is needed with the DSE sub. Any info you may have would be appreciated.

Notching the DSE sub won't get you much, the wheel will hit the control arm and or sway bar at full lock anyways.......now if you put the steering stops on the rack (fox body stuff) then you can limit the steering travel and add more backspacing over the standard 6.125"
On the outside there is this option.

I'm a foxbody guy so I am familiar with the steering stops. I don't want to lose a lot of turning radius. I have never driven a car with the DSE sub so I am not sure if I would be happy with the limiters or not. I know I don't want the larger tires bad enough to do the above! When I bought the car it had a sketchy rack conversion and you could easily have wrecked the car if you did not realize how terrible the turning radius was. If you turned into a road that had a car stopped in the other direction at a stop sign you had better have your turn planned out.

Stacey's DSE 1969 Camaro has Anvil wide carbon fiber fenders with the matching Anvil inner fenders.
