Hello I'm new to the forum and am currently building a 72 Maverick Grabber. I am currently designing the front suspension using C6 spindle and hub. I'm doing the design work in solidworks. Would anyone have a solid model of this or of the AFX spindle hub that they wouldn't mind sharing.
Thanks Lance

I have a C6 wheel bearing that I could share.
Let me know if you get a spindle. I would also need that :)

Anders,
What version of SW are you using?
Check out this link (http://www.gt40s.com/forum/gt40-tech-chassis-brakes-tires-wheels/27159-c5-corvette-ball-joint-taper.html) for stp files on the spindle. I have not pulled measurements to check the files, but they look good.
Not a big part, but I have a quick model of a c5/c6 vette front rotor 12.79"
Do you have a link to your bearing? or any other vette parts?

PM me your e-mail address and I can send it to you. :)
I can try to place it somewhere on the web, but right now it's easier to e-mail it...
[off topic]BTW, found this picture in the thread;

Is that hub carrier a stock part on the vette? Anyone know where I can get one pair for a reasonable price?

BTW: I'm running SW 2011 together with Photoview360 for the renders.

yep, those are the stock knuckles for the vette. I have not looked for them in a while, but you use to be able to find them for just under $100 each used. Not sure what they go for new.

Do any of you know where I can get a solidworks model of a 68-72 chevelle front clip? I want to design a new Modified race chassis and we use that clip to start with per our rules. It would be pretty time consuming to try and recreate that so if someone has it, it SURE would be appreciated.

At 26, I wanted to start making better parts for some racing I have been getting into. I ran across this site with a google search. I must say you guys do some cool stuff. Maybe one day ill be there. I really do admire this trade.
With that said I am able to do sheet metal stuff with solid works. I built a front motor plate for my 1970 big block chevy going in a boat. Sent it to the water jet and when I got it back it looked bitchen.........until I installed it. I did not leave enough meat around the water inlet on the block and I was a little off around the timing cover. Does any have a bbc modeled or could I send my plate to someone to test fit on a modeled bbc? I don't want to throw more metal in the scrap pile.
Thanks

Wow, some awesome looking work in here. I have only done a few things in solidworks so far. The first is a bracket that bolts to the side of an LSX block with the front bolt pattern of the lower mount holes on a SBC so I can bolt on a SBC dry sump pump to my LSX. and the second is a simple piece to change the angle of a autometer gauge to 10 deg. when mounted on a flat race car dash, and 1 picture of the angle adapter after being printed in my buddies 3d printer :) Still a steep learning curve ahead for me since I am more of an autocad guy... but this 3d stuff is really cool. but whats really cool is being able to print small parts and test fit from the printer before making the real thing.

69lsxamx, you usually need to go though a Value Added Reseller to purchase SolidWorks. Unless you are a student (you have to prove it and you will have a watermark on drawings). Go to the SW website for their sales contact info.
JustJohn, you can try grabcad.com and see if someone has uploaded a file. They have lots of cool car files.

Designed a rear sway bar for the van over the weekend. I modeled up the Energy Suspension bushings and rod ends. The bar routes under the fuel tank and attaches to the rear housing with the "L" shaped brackets. They will be welded to the Lower 4-Bar brackets.

Make sure you don't put the fuel pump and filter in the back. It's a sure way to catch on fire if you are rear-ended. Move it to the side or front of the tank. Just make sure if you put it in front of the tank that it won't hit the rear differential if the tank is moved forward in a collision.

Its solid-works drawing but animated in 3DVia Composer. We sell it as a DIY kit for guys. Accepts C4 corvette suspensions or an optional Live axle with short 4 bars or long ladder bars and a pan hard all though you could easily install a watts with the bat wing pickup points.

Thanks Marty!
I wish there was room for it in front or on the side. There just isn't any. To keep it at a level for gravity feed to the filter it has to be in the back. I'm less concerned with the pump and filter in a rear ender then I am the aluminum tank. That is probably going to fair worse then they will in a crash....
Here are some updated designs for the bar.
These are the final designs as it stands today. I ordered some parts from McMaster Carr and got a selection of 1/2-20 rod ends off eBay to build the end links. Now I just need to pick up the DOM tubing I will use for the actual bar.
Here are the 3D CAD pics

A close up of the adjusters
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2013/04/ASMSWAYBARREAR2vi-1.jpg
The drivers side mounting tower. The angled plate provides a little additional clearance for the bar in jounce. I have the bar ends tucked in close to the rails so i had to move the bushings inboard a bit and this created a clearance issue with the mounting plate.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2013/04/ASMSWAYBARREAR4vi-1.jpg
Here is the passenger side. You can see another issue with the track bar bracket. There wasn't a lot of room to get this thing packaged...

Here are the actual adjusters and rod ends...

I got a very good deal on this set of rod ends from QS Components on eBay. 42 bucks and free shipping. Saved me about 35 bucks over Speedway with shipping added in.
This is enough to do the front bar also. :)

It´s a project by myself for a Hot Rod.
If there is no Ford file, a Chevy file would also be fine :D

Anyone willing to share a 335 BFG Rival S tire, and wilwood disc brakes solidworks files?
Check out GrabCAD (https://grabcad.com/library?utf8=%E2%9C%93&query=wilwood) for Wilwood files. I find the site helpful for consumer items or stuff I flat out don't have time to model. You probably won't find your specific tire...but really for representation purposes the nitty gritty details are of no consequence. Model as per manufacturer listed specs for section width and height and call er a day.

Been working on a AFX/corvette style upright for my camaro suspension model to get all of the geometry and clearances right, and some 1" setback LS motor mounts for my nova, going to water jet them this week and see how the engine fits.
Also some older work, a rolling bench for my JD2 bender converted from manual to using a porta power, as well as some of my suspension design for the baja car. I couldn't find my more complete models, so that will have to do
Sidenote: x2 if anyone has a 1st gen camaro model, willing to pay for one if its accurate. I was thinking of renting a scanner or paying someone to get it into solidworks, it would definitely be pricey though.
