So this is the start of my build, and many, many questions. But first, a little history to the car: my grandmother bought me this car when I was 16 (now 26), after I basically begged to have one. I've been absolutely obsessed with the body style since I first saw one. I also knew I wanted something that didn't run yet, because for me the fun of the car is never going to be just driving it. It's the process of building it, knowing I had a hand in every aspect of where it ends up once it's finished. I know most of the end goals, and am just a little stuck with the details on certain things. The car started as a 1967 Camaro base model, inline, manual setup, and when it got to me it was rusty, had a 350/350 drivetrain in it (Turbo 350 trans), and was basically a bucket of bolts. At some point, it was mangled by some DIY racing enthusiast, who cut a hole in the trunk pan for a fuel cell, mangled the shifter area in the tranny tunnel, and just generally hacked some things up.
The very first thing I did was to rebuild the drivetrain, which still technically isn't finished. I built it as a 383 stroker kit, with double hump heads that were actually raced by a local on his car a long time ago. Now that I look back though, what I really want is some nice aluminum heads, and a multi-port fuel injection setup. The tranny is also built, but again I think I'm going to swap for a 4L60E and a controller for it. I don't know the gear ratio in the rear end, which I'm rebuilding anyways so it's not a major issue yet.
Before I get back into the drivetrain, I need this car setting on good body bushings, new sheet metal, glass, and paint. I'm working with a single car garage so the car needs to be able to sit outside so I can work inside. Which brings me to the first big question: What suspension setup do I go for? I want this car to handle the curvy roads I drive on every day, but it's not an autocross machine. The ride can't be too harsh because it's going to be my daily. I know I want subframe connectors and solid body bushings, and I want to do as little cutting and welding as possible. Modifications/ upgrades to the stock subframe are fine, but I'm willing to spend money on tubular control arms and such to correct any poor steering and handling. There's just so many options to choose from it's overwhelming.

Any hint about what the car is? Or is the description buried in the text and I don't see it?

WOW can't believe I missed that detail, it's a 1967 Camaro coupe, base model. Updated the original post to say so. I like the 67 the best because it's the "cleanest" of the 3 first gen years. No markers or things like that, and the vent windows just tickle me, not exactly sure why. I'll post some pictures of the car when I got it, and what it looks like now, once I get home from work today.

Okay so this is when I first got it home, before I pulled the drivetrain. I'll post pics of the engine and where the car is now once I upload them off my phone later today.

So this is the engine during the build process. I don't have my spec sheet on hand, but that's a Sniper EFI on top of it, which I've decided against using as the system gave me issues on my truck and I'm more interested in multi-port anyways. It will also get a serpentine belt conversion once it goes into the car.

Good luck, and great work so far!! Love seeing another first-gen f-body regaining life. :)

So today I started cutting into the car. I'm starting with the cowl and dashtop, since it's a major structure piece. I'm lucky to know a good welder. Meanwhile, discussing in other threads, I've made a few decisions about my suspension. While it's probably the best time possible for me to do mini tubs, honestly I don't think I'll need them and the hassle just isn't worth it to me, not even mentioning the extra expense. I'm going with Chris Alston's G-connector setup and some solid bushings for the subframe. I'm also looking for an IROC steering box unless someone's got a better suggestion. As for the rest of the suspension, I'm still debating about it. I'll post some pics of the before, during, and after on the cowling.

I don't know about everyone else, but I've certainly had a crazy week. Haven't really been able to spend time on the car. Hopefully today I can start again; I've learned that instead of drilling out these really hard to access spot welds, an air hammer and chisel will usually pop them right off. Kinda makes me uneasy watching this guy on Youtube just casually buzz through them, knowing that's what holds my car together. But, it will be stronger once it goes back in, so I guess it's for the best. I'm unsure of where to go after the cowl is done; I know the wheel tubs in the back either need replacing or a patch at the rocker, and I'm curious what the insides of the rockers look like, so maybe I'll go there.

Well, I hadn't realised so much time had passed since my last post. Build is still in progress, but you guys know how projects go. I decided that getting my truck painted before the rust turned into holes was more important xD. Right now, I'm getting a few items together to mock up the drivetrain. Found a scrap sbc short block and got a burnt up 4l60e core with the two-piece bellhousing. Still heavy, but when I get the new floor pan in I can at least see if I need or want do any massaging or cutting of the tunnel area. Since my daily driver's in good working order, now I can go back to getting these rockers replaced and maybe we can really start seeing some build progress!
