Fellas need some help with a new trutrac diff. I was finishing a rear ended rebuild and the axle spacer was a bit tight. So I had the great idea to tap it into place. My question is is there any side effects to having the axle spacer to tight against the axle shaft. Other then the obvious I can’t pull it out. Thanks.

Are they C-clip axles?

You might could have gone with a thinner c-clip to get the room you needed or shaved a little off the axle spacer. You could drill and tap the spacer and use a bolt to extract it.
I don't think there's a downside other than maybe putting internal stress on the diff?

There needs clearance to allow for heat expansion. Otherwise you will have metal shavings in the diff from the axles rubbing on the spacer

This is the first thing that came to mind when reading the question too. FWIW, I put a new tru trac in my 12 bolt last week and the was no binding from this center shaft. Hotwire’s idea of thinner C clips would be a good place to start.

I have a Tru-Trac in my 80 Camaro with Moser axles. The spacer was too wide. A buddy of mine has a surface grinder some we took "some" off so it fit with just a bit of play. No pressure on the c-clips. I think the reason the spacer doesn't fit is that the Moser axles have a bit thicker "nub" on the end of axle compared to the stock GM axles. If you still have your stock axles and could re-install it would be interesting to see if the spacer fit with out mods.
I wouldn't grind the c-clips.
