Correct me if I am wrong but didnt someone on this board fabricate one of these recently? Last time I heard the template was drifting around between members. Wonder if it drifted into the hands of one of the boys at DSE?? I am sure it is not exactly the same but it is the same idea anyways. One question concerning this setup. If you have the battery in the stock location it makes for a difficult time getting to it.

There's a thread on camaros.net.
I made one, a bit simpler than DSE's, that works well. I was primarily interested in air flow.

Hey Rick thanks for the fast reply. Do you happen to have the link handy? Also do you have pics of the one you made? Curious as to how it looks.
Thanks

I saw that. I know it's not any of my business but if I can offer some "constructive" criticism here, I really think the time, resources, and money that went into the tooling for that thing would have been better spent on developing a suspension component for another make or model like a Mustang or a Chrysler. Kyle and Stacy make some great parts for 1st gen Camaros and granted it's their company and they can run it any way they want. But I think at this point they've pretty much got the 1st gen Camaro tapped out and should be concentrating their resources towards expanding their portfolio to include other makes and models. I think there's more of a market for control arms for a Mustang than there is for a $400 cosmetic peice. But hey, God love em...that's just my $.02

I guessing they spent all the time and effort making it for Stuarts old car so it was easy to produce after that.

Remember.. the hard part was already done since it was designed for the Aluminator.. It was just a matter of giving the dimensions to a fab shop and getting some churned out. I imagine that they got many requests for this product and saw a market. Also, I know it's mostly cosmetic, but I imagine it has some performance benefit since it forces more air through the radiator since it seals up that area.
Besides, you can buy mustang a-arms from other souces (total control, global west, etc) nobody else sells this part.
I am thinking of spending the $$$ and getting one for penny, really cleans up the bay.
And there you have my .01 (canadian, so it's worth even less.. lol)

Nevermind. I see it on DSE's website.
That's not a core support. That's a shroud. I thought DSE was making replacement core supports...like a tubular version or something.

no, its just some are upset others make money on stuff they could have...everyone wants to be the one who invented the internet.
That sort of stuff has been around for years...its about time someone mass produces it. Now for fabricated inner wheel wells that doesn't look like a Nazi war helmet..

I know Kyle and Stacey aren't letting any grass grow under their feet. If you think 1st generation camaros are tapped out as far as aftermarket development, think again... watch DSE for future products!!!!!!!!!

LOL, no kidding. I have a photo of the engine compartment on Mark Donohue's '68 that I took at Monterey Historics, a nearly identical component.
In '69 they tilted the radiator and ducted it all the way to the grille.

Definately have NOT tapped out the market on the first gen camaro. I am just surprised they have not come up with a complete custom console or dash. They definately have the skills and lets face it, the stock complete dash assembly looks like dog dung!!

It works great in hiding all the vacuum crap on 69 RS cars.
After making it for my old car, they had a bunch of intrest in the part.

I'd like to see something that looks better than the stock dash in a 1st gen? The aftermarket dash insert with the round guages just doesn't work [for me] with the square configuration of the stock dash.
I'd like to see some pictures of a dash thats real nice. Doug

doug..put one of those aluminum pieces on the Battleaxe..it comes with a complimentary cheese ball..I think Detroit Speed is tops in the game..glad they're discontinuing this piece..musta got a red neck surge when they first moved to North Carolina..maybe it's functional but it sure looks cheesy..looks like a early 90's pro street piece..

I don't think they're discontinuing it. I think they made a boo boo by NAMING it a "Closeout" instead of a Cover or Panel.

I like the piece on Staurts car at sema last year. Cleans up the front end. If I can't come up with a better idea [doubtful]I'll use that on my current project.

painting it black would help..the more you hide it and disguise it the better I would like it.. I don't like the looks of anything that is obviously a cover up..the original intent was to clean up the area..now guys have covers that cover the whole top of the ugly motors like LS'1's with those hideous coils on top of the valvecovers..functional but ugly..guys trying to hide the side entry injection on the Ford small blocks and mod motors..etc...I love the stock 69 dash and console guages..hard to improve on it in my eyes..unless Chris Itoh did it..he could improve on it..he's the man..of course on your Cuda Killer you're gonna have to step up on the dash..but you's one high steppin mo fo...

Guys, it is not being discontinued. It's name is a close-out because it closes out an ugly area of the car, not because it's being discontinued and is on "close out"!!!! :git:
I like it because that area is ugly on every 67-69 Camaro I've seen.

Say it ain't so Bob! :seizure: The 69 Camaro dash is one of the ugliest factory dashes I've ever seen. It gets more negative comments than any other I've heard.
But to each his own, that's what's great about this hobby. And you obviously have great taste, other than this one!
