I must be an idiot because I am only halfway thru restoring my 69 Camaro and just purchased another project, I am picking up a Chevelle in about 4 weeks time, driving from New York back up to Canada. The owner has stripped the paint and left it. I'm worried that even covering the car, driving back and it starts to rain, I will have surface rust everywhere before I can epoxy.
Should I use Eastwood metal wash before I load onto trailer or is there a different product I should use?

Most epoxies should not be applied over an acid based rust treatment unless it is properly neutralized. Adhesion will be affected.

Understood Don, I'm looking for something temporary just till I get the car home. Once it's here I plan on washing down, masking and applying epoxy.

To remove an acid film you have to reapply the acid, work it in and then rinse off while wet. At least this is the process I know.
I avoid acid based products like the plague, including old school etch primer.
Some guys will say they spray epoxy over acid film without issue but read the fine print in the datasheet, most epoxy manufacturers advise against it.

That sounds like a lot more work than I want to do just because I would always be wondering if I actually removed all of the film before I sprayed epoxy. It's about a 7 hour drive home, I have a car cover specific to the car and I'll likely tarp it too. Maybe I'll just leave it and wipe off whatever moisture is on it when I get back home.
If you have any product suggestions I'm all ears. Thanks Don

I would just choose a nice day and go for it. Only cover it if rain moves in.

One sure way is to wrap it like a boat. You could purge it with dry nitrogen too.

Pay someone with an enclosed trailer to move it for you?

I know kirker epoxy can be applied over ospho if it's been dry for 24hrs
