Ok I致e been an automotive painter my whole working life (I知 retired now) and I have a question, has anybody tried paints from Summit, Eastwood, etc.? I知 not planning on painting 69 Camaro with those paints, I知 a PPG guy but I知 curious about the quality of that paint.

It’s just low end Kirker paint as far as I know. SPI is much better quality clear and primer for less money than PPG. Use Motobase base.

SPI is a paint manufacturer. Great products for a fair price. Free shipping. Prices are online. Their forum is great.

Motobase is a brand of base. Get it from Chad at Autorod Technologies. Much better than Kirker, covers very well. Give him a call. He also sells SPI products. Good guy.

I've done 2 full repaints, one with PPG ShopLine base/clear and one with Summit single stage. Probably since I'm inexperienced, I was happier with the Summit paint. It was more forgiving to spray, 1/4 the price, and equally decent results after a cut and buff. I had less orange peel with the Summit paint, but still not as good as factory. Durability is equally mediocre with both - seems like they get rock chips easier than my "new" cars with factory paint.

Not that you can tell much from pictures, but here's the Skylark I painted with the Summit paint. Not bad for ~$300 in filler, primer, and color, though it might be more now. I painted it about 5 years ago. I think the Summit paint is perfect for a DIY type person with a driver quality car. If you're paying for labor and/or building a show car, you might as well pay for better materials too, even though it is diminishing returns.

Skylark looks absolutely stunning in orange, and I'm not even a fan of orange colored A-bodys.

Thank you! I normally think bright colors are "too much" on bigger cars, but I wanted something different and think it works well with the black grille and black on the wheels.
