I'm looking around for a prefabbed firewall setback panel for my 69 to make room for the high pressure pump and wiring loom. I saw the Dynacorn 1046GA which looks like it has a bit of a set back but how much isn't specified. Also looking at things from Directsheetmetal, but they don't show anything specifically for an F body, just Chevelles / GTOs but they d0n't have any dimensions on their stuff, so I emailed them. They do have a smoothed firewall but don't call out the setback, looks from the pictures like stock setback. I need about 2 to 3 inches from the plane of the firewall. Curious what others have done to make room for the pump besides fabricating themselves.

Nice find on the Dynacorn piece! Please update us if they get back to you with the dimensions.

I know Dave, DKZ Garage, has good pics of the mod he had to make of that area on his car.

I installed one of those. Here’s a pic where you can see it sitting proud roughly an inch so you should gain roughly that amount.

Do you really need 2-3 inches, that seems like quite a lot. Will a recess that large interfere with the Vintage Air evaporator?

An inch will clear the pump and insulation on it fine Don, my concern is that puts the wiring for the PS / Even cylinder injectors really close to the panel. It might work but it will have a very sharp bend in the wires. Here's a couple pictures with the engine sitting about where I think it should be but can't really tell for sure. The engine is as far forward on the frame as it can go without some more cutting on the frame (which could be done). I can scoot the frame forward a bit too but can't tell where that will put the wheels in the wheelwells yet till I hang fenders. It's a good question on the evaporator, I assumed it won't go over that far but I haven't put it in the car yet, probably need to mock that up too. In the pictures, the body is about 4.5 higher than it will be once it its on the frame mounts. 194781

Use the Dynacorn panel and then add a small dimple with a ball peen hammer for the wire harness if needed.

The Dynacorn panel is nice but make sure you can get one. A lot of sheet metal is not available. Had one heck of a time finding some convertible rockers. Out of stock just about everywhere with no ETA…

Of course Don has done it before! :rotfl:

That recess is only about an inch Don? Did you have any problems with the Vintage Air evaporator?

Thanks and post some pics of this if you have them. I'd love to see what it looks like finished!

I can’t find a finished pic but here is one in primer. I think it around an inch, maybe a skooch more. No issue with the evaporator.

thanks Don, that looks good installed. Did you use this as a cover for a firewall or as a partial replacement?

Like you said it's going to be hard to come by. Dynacorn emailed back and said they don't have the specs and don't have one in stock to measure. Haven't found one yet in someone's inventory, so it may not be something I can use without a huge delay in the work, but I'll keep looking. For now I need to cut the transmission tunnel to get it closer to see what really needs to be done.

I used it as a cover. It’s not intended for replacement afaik.

Sheet metal situation is worriesome. I don’t think anything is coming into the country.

Sorry to bring this topic back. I’m looking at doing the same Dynacorn firewall on my 68 but had no luck who carries it. Where’d you get yours?

The part is unobtanium right now. Check with Dynacorn to see if they plan to make more.
