UPDATE ON PAGE 2 with pics and specs!!!

finally picked up my new project, a bit different

1971 240z

Straight body, no rust.

I also just picked up an lt1 motor and its got a head package and cam on it, long tube headers, pulleys, etc...a nice healthy lt1

Still contemplating trannys, its got a auto on the engine now, but i really want a 5 or 6 speed

I was thinking of the tremec tko500 since it handles 500ft.lb

I am currently working on the suspension, taking it all apart, will sandblast it all, do all new bushings, new front and rear control arms and koni shocks, its already got springs on it.

Also have a pair of sparco 1 piece seats that im making brackets for, as well as sparco steering wheel.

My next part will be brakes and wheels. There is a nice front brake kit using 12.2" rotors 1.25 thick with a willwood 4 piston caliper available for htese cars for $750, a good deal i think

Any suggestion on wheels? I wil most likely get fender flares

THe car currently actually has a 327 sbc in it but its stock and has rod knock, but at least the car is setup for a chevy small block already.

ripped the tired old 327 out, bought an lt1 thats already been built up before: 383 stroker ,high comp. ported heads, cam, 1.6 rockers, etc...

also just bought a t56 tranny to mate to it. Will be installing the lt1 this weekend.

Looking now for 400whp tuned at 2400lb!

More pictures to come tomorow of the new engine

no thanks, i bought the car to have a project to work on, if i bought a complete car, what fun is that?

Plus, i hate g-noses...damn they just bug me...lol

Clean car though...a bit more than my budget allows...so far i have a straight body z with an lt1 and 6 speed with less than 2k into it!!!!

Wheelin and dealin is great, i made my money back on the car by simply selllin the stuff in it that i wont be using...

best car for the money in the world in my opinion...I have owned a bunch of them. Just sold a 70 and very early 71..The 72 I have makes 500 HP @ 20# of boost..came from California..known as Bakers Bully in late 90's..goes like stink but you can't get it to the ground..I disagree on the G nose..makes the front look like a Ferrari..I like them and they are seldom seen over here..I liked the Z in the fastest street car shoutout last year..If he'd have put a little more motor in it and had a little more seat time in it he probably would have won it..

In response to your question on wheels, I have seen a Z-car of the same vintage with 18s that looked really good. I realize that you have a four lug set up now, but I would assume that the bigger brake package will be five lug. Here is a wheel that I think would look good http://www.wheelmax.com/product.asp?ProdId=10097
Something along that line, looks like a cool project keep us posted.

I had a 260Z that looked just like your 240 back when I was in college (color, wheels and all). I used to drool over the JagsThatRun "Z" V8 conversion manual dreaming of the day I could drop in a SBC. Keep up the excellent work and keep posting pics!

Nice project. Vintage rice with V8 power rules. I have an 88 RX7 with LS1 power.

Whats the weight of those Centerline wheels?

18.5lb not bad for a 17x9.5 2 piece wheel that is VERY well priced

Are you planning on upgrading the rear-end to a beefier unit? I noticed that the new wheels were still 4-lug. The stock IRS is a huge weak point with a V8, especially a healthy LT1.

the rear end is the most expensive piece of this project

I have a q45 rear vlsd diff(beffiest unit that can possibly be fit, 9.3" or so), 4 q45 cv's to replace the U joints, billet mosler halfshafts, billet adapters for cv to datsun stub axle, which will be upgraded to 27spline 280z turbo stub axles

As welll as the pictured rear 1/2" billet mustache bar to hold the diff in place as well as a custom front brace.

This diff has gone into the 9's on multiple z's with IRS!!!!

It pushed around a 300hp 4100lb car effortlessly, should be no problem for a 400hp 2400lb car:)

Sorry for asking about the rear diff. When I initially saw the pic of what I now know is the diff and mustache bar, I thought it was a pic of a front-end alignment device. :pat: I thought it was kind of strange that you were showing a pic of that.... LOL!

shows what I know.............

Thanks for the pics!
That is incredible. I wonder if I just found my next project...

Are you going to leave the tires like that or will you add fender flares? I actually like it the way it is. It looks real mean that way.
