I was searching for pics on Google yesterday and stumbled across a Youtube Video using most of the pics I posted on my build thread here by channel owner Hand Built Cars. I never gave permission or was asked about using these pics. They've obviously been monetized on this person's channel - not sure how I feel about this. On the one hand, they are posted on a public forum - on the other....it would have been nice to have been asked. It was strange finding a video full of my pics with people making comments on a channel I've never heard of.

They did credit my username and linked to my build thread on PT - that's how I found it.

Thoughts?

That same thing happened to me! There is an option on YouTube where you can actually claim ownership. I started to and then the language on the next page got really legal and I just dropped it.

Maybe yours had more views but mine only had like 34k views which I think is like $50 bucks or something.

Mine has less - around 17k. I don't know what to think - it's just strange to me that someone would just do that without asking. I mean - a PM through the forum would have been pretty simple

I’m sorry to hear about this. I’m sure there are many other people being ripped of their content as well.

I actually had someone PM me on this forum a few years ago asking to feature my car from an old thread. I allowed it but they at least had the decency to ask.

Guess it can't be prevented

It can be reported to YouTube. I've seen those videos. I'd be more offended by the crappy music.

Will they actually do anything?

I guess I'm not Worthy! :hail:

but one of the cars I built was on Dick Barbour's Dealership with the Credit for the Build to someone else! :hand: I called Dick himself ( he was a co-driver with Paul Newman at Le Mans ), told him of the discrepancy ( with pictures & a link to a Forum) - he didn't change it. It sold to a guy in France that I have been in touch with and gave him some additional Paperwork.

I see tons of shops/ business using people's cars with their products on them doing the same thing. They post up images of the parts installed on the cars all the time.

They did the same with my old build thread. It bothered me that I wasn't asked, and they were making money on it. I reported it to Youtube and it was pulled.
