Tensioner Vintage Air

SO my belt is riding up on the AC pump. Vintage air support told me when they see this its a bad tensioner. MY kit is a frontrunner for LS bought it a few years ago so although new I am out of luck to get a replacement from VA.

Anyone know what part number they use for their tensioner? Its obviously OEM form something and not anything they produce in house. thye dont even sell replacements on their site.

If the tensioner is defective, regardless of the age of the system, we'll stand behind it. Please PM me your contact info and I'll look up your tech ticket to see which technician you spoke to and where this stands.

One thing I'd like you to check first though is whether the tensioner hold-down bolt is contacting the tensioner cover on the inside. I have seen before where the combination of a 12pt ARP bolt, combined with a washer, stands tall enough inside the cover to contact it. This will create a bridging condition where the tensioner cover bolt can pull the tensioner arm out of alignment. It is also possible that the tensioner bolt, dragging on the cover, would cause the action of the tensioner to be sluggish, which could also allow the belt to jump. We discovered this condition recently and have changed the bolt specification to a 6pt with a lower profile head. I believe there may have been a change to the Dayco tooling that resulted in a slightly taller assembly or that these parts are coming out of multiple Dayco plants.

I'm not sure of the OEM application for this tensioner as we worked directly with Dayco when we developed this system and I chose the tensioner based on our system requirements. You are correct that the correct Dayco part number is 89245. We also sell this tensioner under our part number 39603-SCH.

I don't think the tensioner is defective I think it may be bent. Research online says it's made of lightweight cast Aluminum and bends easy. So word to the wise be super gentle taking the belt on and off. Issue happens with cover off.

I orders the Dayco today, Hopefully it solves the issue. Will start with no cover to test to eliminate the bolt and the bridge concern. Thanks for the help will DM if its not the solution.
