I want to have my car painted that color as well. Spoke with a body shop who did my firewall/undercarriage and they were against the soul red crystal metallic. They said since it’s a tri coat all panels have to be painted assembled on the car. For a Camaro that’s not ideal. Also they said touch ups pretty much impossible. Would have to repaint the whole panel.

That's good to know. It is a color I was considering as well. Not my first choice, but one of about 4 colors.

Yeah that's the case on all tri-coats as far as I know. I had a similar color (Crimson Red Pearl) on a daily driver Cadillac that had some panels repainted, and the match looked perfect from some angles/lighting conditions and horrible from others. It always bothered me. I think to do it right, the whole side of the car should have been repainted. There's nothing like that nice "candy" red look though.

I've been eyeing that color myself. It looks really good.

I had a similar previous dilemma & chose Inferno Red from a Dodge Pickup/Charger as it is not a triple stage paint.
There are over 4 color variations of shades of brightness.

It was painted in pieces & all match perfectly.

The new Mustang has a nice red Metallic also, similar to Candy red.

Love the color, just finished a bike build, painted it that color. More expensive because of the extra layers. 185724

I do custom paint, i use HOK and TAMCO.
look up TAMCO.com and look at the colors. They have some amazing single colors that mimic kandys really well. I'm sure youll find what you want, and the price is great, and the brand name isnt well known, but there is many big name painters using the paint.
I have been using it almost exclusively for the past 4 years. I only exclusively use tamco 2104 clear now. It is really great stuff.

I just love that color! It looks so much like a candy. Almost a chrome red

Knowing that Mazda paint is a Tri coat and expensive I always keep an eye out for other choices. Every time I see a red I like on a newer car, I look it up. Almost every time, its a tri coat paint lol

That truck bed looks great! Im always open to other colors. Just seem to be drawn to the depth of multi stage paints lol

Someone else mentioned at some point that Dave Kindig’s line of paints have base coat/clear coat that look like a candy or tri stage. Problem is there’s no swatches or spray outs I can look at. At least I haven’t tried that hard to research this. Maybe you can get farther than me?

Question for you guys that paint. looking further into these candy paints, I see a lot of them are silver basecoat, candy red, then clear. the soul red crystal metallic is a red base, tinted clear, then clear coat. does it still need to go over a silver base, technically making it a 4 stage paint??

Candy is truly transparent & will vary in shade based on the number of coats.
You typically must walk the vehicle when painting as any overlap at panels will result in color variations.

Many OE type Tri-coat colors can be sensitive to the primer color as these paints tend to be somewhat translucent (they cover poorly) unless you apply many coats of base.
The labor involved is much less than a candy paint job, but still extra effort over the standard base/clear colors.
The tinted clear is similar to the candy application but is only an added depth of color effect (less coats) & not the actual basis of the color.

I did not want a tri-coat as I was painting my truck in pieces & could not risk a color variation.

I don’t paint but I did a lot of YouTube searching on the Mazda crystal red metallic. The basecoat is actually a bronze, second coat is the tinted clear, then regular clear. Check out the video:

The basecoat color is deceiving before clear is applied. The color on my truck looked bronze also before the clear was applied.
Add clear & it would be red, just lighter before the tint coat is sprayed.
