Proper storage method?

I ordered up a Dutchman 9 with axles and had it out for mock up and it’s getting some surface rust. What would be the best way to clean it up and store it before it’s ready for its final assembly?

If you can I would spray the housing with epoxy primer and then plastic bag them storing some place with a concrete floor. The axles I would hit them with WD40 and then plastic bag them.
