I have an 81 Camaro which will soon be receiving a 400 sbc with a TH350. All of the transmissions on my previous cars have been manual and I miss the ability to shift at will so I have been looking at full manual reverse pattern valve bodies. However, I've heard that they are tough on your tranny for street applications. What is the best way to get a reverse shift pattern with atleast part-time manual control for a street-driven TH350?

I have been running a full manual TH400 in my 69 Bird for over 3 years now. I love changing gears without a clutch. :) It makes it hard for others to drive it, too.

You should have no problem running a manual valve body on the street. My buddy did for years in a fairly radical '71 Camaro SS 355 sbc with a TH350 and 4.88 gears. Just like anything else, make sure you have a solid driveline behind it and use a tranny cooler. Also, are you running a higher stall converter ?
