Just about all the cars sent in have made it into the magazine so it is time to put out the word once again.
If you read the book then you are invited to send in pics for the newly redone HOMETOWN HOTRODDING. Bigger pics and full color are the biggest upgrades.
Don't care what kind of car it is.. PT, PS, whatever.. variety is the spice of life and if the car is cool we will print it.. simple.
Oh, with the new format the better pics get printed bigger. If I get a cool engine shot then you could end up with two pics in the book. Heck, I just gave one guy an entire page just for his car. No excuses for not getting ink in a magazine anymore. It's up to you.
NOTE: I have gotten some great submissions but the images were HORRIBLE resolution, 72dpi will not cut it now will 300dpi pictures that are 1x2 inches in size. Again, if you take some time and take some good pics then they will most likely run larger. We have also gotten some track shots that were pretty cool. In fact Alcinos submission of his car on the track got him a full on 5-page feature, so you never know.
Send submissions along with some tech and "human interest" info on your car/truck to
[email protected]
Oh, and if James Greenwell of Louisville, Kentucky is out there.. I would love to run your '89 IROC but the images you sent are too small/lowres - I would have contacted you but could not find your email addy.
Our readers ARE the magazine, step up and show off your ride!
Thanks

Steve, is it too late to send in another pic of my car? (blue '69 Chevelle with white stripes & TTIIs on grass, in the sun, with the windows down, etc...) By today or tomorrow, I'll have the LT1 set in the new frame, but you may have already sent it to print by now...

Very cool.. take a picture without the crummy background and you have a winner!!
Again, Hometown is for the cars you like and build, unlike features there is MUCH more latitude over what goes in. Also, since I am in charge of it and I like all types of cars then the bizzar stuff gets bonus points. Besides, it helps balance out all the '69 Camaros I get sent.. lol

Yep.. Just cause we don't focus on them does not mean we pretend they don't exist or that we don't like checking them out.
About the only exceptions to getting in would be an absolutly hideous car or an import. Although the import might get in under certain circumstances. The other thing that kills getting in is terrible photography.

I went out last week taking some pictures but they all sucked. Every picture I took had a horible shadow or somehing else wrong with it. But after I get back from my trip I'll try again and see what I come up with.
On a side note the Nova in this months issue looks so nice. I want my car to sit just like that.

Well you just send the original images as attachments to email. Or burn them to CD and mail them.
The images in VBgarage will be too lowres/small for use in the book..

actually on the subject of "under construction" projects, what are the chances of getting in multiple times? for example, let's say i submit some shots of my car and make it in, but then later this year get my suspension, wheels, and engine bay redone. would i be screwed if i tried to submit new pics?

Nope..
Alcino's 76 Mustang II is in the March Hometown.. his car will be featured in the April issue.. infact that is how we found him.
Being in Hometown does not disqualify you for being featured. However, if we KNOW we are going to feature a car we don't Hometown it so that others get a chance to be in the book.
No place yet for "under construction" stuff but I have always like the idea.. we could call it "Future Features" or something..

Your car does not have to be expensive or "big buck" to get in.. it just has to be cool in some way.
Sometimes that is because it's high dollar.. sometimes it's just cause it kicks ass. We featured Alcinos 76 Mustang II that has $6k in it.. We featured a $14k Torino and quite a few sub $20k cars.
Keep the faith :)

Here's a real oddball... bonus points!?!
How about my BERETTA? Yeah, uh... my 95 Chevy Beretta Z26. So I only have about $5k in it altogether and it runs 16s at the track... but it corners amazing. And it's daily driven all year round in NY, even in the snow.

Like I keep saying.. don't care what kind of car it is.. if you read PHR and your car is drivable then your in the running.
Also.. 300dpi and a pic size of 2.2 by 2 inches is NOT big enough.. lol.. If you check you file size and it's 40k then that is probably an indicator as well ;)

I mostly just lurk :lurk: on these boards and gather some quiet info here occasionally, but this topic was a pretty good one. I just shot these pictures last week using a cheap digi cam of my moms (Yes, thats her '69 Bird, Its a number matching car (the original block was just pulled for safe keeping) as it is currently sporting an e-headed 406 with a TH400 and some 4.10's. That car gets with it. :drive: Drove the entire way and back a week later nonstop (well.. except for gas :crying: ) to go visit my mom over the holidays.
Anyway, made the trip there and back with no problems, and averaged a little over 17MPG with the car in LA traffic, over the grapevine, and over Pigeon Pass, fairly well laden with crap. Spare, jack, enough tools to dissasemble any possible car or machine I ran across, a female passenger (Yea, shes the hottie) and clothes for two for over a week. Averaged about 80-85MPH there and back. Not too shabby. Speaks for the comfort Ive built into the car as well, a true street car. Has to be, its my daily. 8)
Anyway, rambling, heres some of the pics I took while I was down there. Wish I would have read some of the suggestions from PHR posted as they would have greatly helped some middle of the day shots I took. :hand:
http://www.jpfarrell.net/birdpics_arizona.html
Whaddya guys think? Never shot many pics of cars (or anything!) before and just had to go on what Ive seen in mags. Pics were slightly altered; sharpened and some had filters run through them in photoshop by a friend.

It's much more photogenic than it is in person. :ssst: But, it looks good goin down the road, too. It's not worth making it perfect as it just ends up with small dings here and there in daily use - and college parking lots aren't conducive to a perfect paint job. Certainly not a show car by any stretch of the imagination.
Anyway, the springs are all stock Formula springs (Theyd be the same as Z28's) with the fronts cut 3/4" free height. Didn't drop the car as much as planned, which seems to have worked out well. Other than that it has the 1LE brake upgrade along with the b-body spindle, and poly's throughout with Koni's.

Wow, that's a surprise... and I surprise that I'm happy to hear. I was planning on chopping my front coils to drop mine since it has new coils and leafs from the last owner. Your rear doesn't have any lowering blocks or anything? They must be tired springs, cause mine is jacked way up in the rear.
How much were the Konis? I was planning on KYBs since I'm cheap, but I'm curious about the difference in price.

Yea, I think the car sits a little too high in the rear, actually. When I feel better (Im sick as a dog) I'll go out there and measure from the ground to the wheel lip and give you some idea of how high - nevermind, it won't work. Camaros have a waaaay different wheel lip.
I bought the Koni's off e-bay, basically NOS. They were 10 years old and unopened. Since then I've broken one, it still works as a shock it just clunks a lot. I'll replace it or find soemone to rebuild it sooner or later. Lost my original receipt. :crying:
