Are any of you running independent rears? What are some of the benefits? how difficult would an install be in a second-gen camaro? and whats the best IRS setup to work with? What would be the benefits vs. cost? is this a cost-effective option, or should i just keep my solid axle leaf setup? just an idea i have been tossing around. any help would be appreciated.

Let's see:
Better handling unless the road is smooth, in which case they will be equal.
Better ride on rough roads.
Not cost effective.
You need welding skills to install.
Wayne Due makes a kit to install a C4 rear. It runs about $700.
If you are going to put a lot of power through the rear and use large tires you will want the Dana 44 version of the rear from a ZR1.
Very cool to have though.

Well, if you can weld in the IRS, it is not anymore expensive as a good 9". Good Dana 44s from manual transmission 84 up Corvettes or ZR1s (84-87 being the most desirable because they are 2" narrower) go for $1200 to $1900. A good 9" will be $1500 - $2200. Handling wise, there are 3 and 4 links they can compete, but will cost as much or more then the IRS for the kit and the rear. If you could fab up a C5 type rear, that would be the snaz, but you will have to be fabricator extrourdinaire.

You can do what I am doing. Use a Viper center with batwings and use the C-4 vette knuckles and control arms for the rest. This will allow you to run shorter half shafts that will narrow the rear to almost any width you want for those deep dish wheels we all love. C-5 setup are nice, but be prepared for a lot of long days of head scratching.

I am running some custom vette axels from Dennys Driveshaft. I talked to Unitraxx and they would not narrow their halfshafts for me, even though they rebuilt my rear with 3.55 gears. I would love to run the Viper style axels, more splines. For now I am stuck with the vette style shafts.

Any of you with the IRS have any pics of it to share?
Thanks,
