I have a 1969 camaro, with a 350 in it, and I have some questions about some remanufactured 454 blocks from 71'-76' cars. Im only 16 so cash is tight. Recon, the company where we order our engines from makes a reman. 454 engine that i believe came from the chevelles. Would these engines be the LS6, 5, or 3?
......And ive made a list of all the things id need to convert to a BBC, Headers, Mech. Fuel pump, water pump, motor mounts....anything else im missing please tell me so i know. Does all the drive accessories fit on BBC from a SBC (alternator brackets, power steering pump etc.) Thanks

I assume you are looking at a long block? I'm sure the reman long blocks they offer are the garden variety motors they offered throughout the 70's and 80's. Nothing special, most likely with large chamber "smog-era" heads. If you are happy with the performance of a stock, low-compression 454, then go ahead. You might want to look into a reman short block, and get some better cylinder heads that will bump up the compression and overall performance. I know they aren't cheap, but I think it is a far better way to go. World products makes a reasonably priced (as far a big blocks go) iron head that would work well.
As far as the swap is concerned.... You will have to change the frame mounts, headers, modify the exhaust, change accessory drive parts/brackets (water pump, balancer, belts), as well as change to big block front coil springs. You will also need to change the transmission flexplate. You might also need to upgrade your radiator and cooling system to take the extra heat. There could be some other things I've forgot. Hope this helps a little,

I have done what you are going to do. I needed an aluminum rad. The new motor mounts for the frame, I also changed from a standard to an automatic you can buy the correct crossmember, shifter cable, pulleys brackets. The heater box is different. Fuel pump and water pump is different. My suggestion is to purchase the ceramic coated Hooker supercomp headers. The #5 cylinder pipe goes over the #7 header pipe and allows more clearance around the steering box. They are expensive but make sure you get the correct ones.

Thanks guys for the info. I got the price on the 454 and its $3800 for a 450hp version long block. I got the hotchkis 2'' drop springs, and konis sport shocks up front, im gonna have to swap em out if i do the 454 swap?
