I'm running NVU replica gauges in my 70 Chevelle. They look cool, but you cant see for ****. During the day, they are very legible....and at night you can just forget getting an easy ready while trying to look down quickly and glance at the gauge.

Can you retrofit these to LED? Or am I better off going with another gauge from NVU that will be a literal plug and play and direct swap? The below pics show that they are plenty readable, but I assure you it's just from the flash. I would compare the bightness at night to candle light at best. 179334179335

Have you checked the voltage at the source for the gauges ? , good clean large ground ?

I know this is going to sound silly, but have you tried turning the headlight knob clockwise or counterclockwise? It's been decades since I've driven an A-body at night but as I recall the headlight switch also controls gauge brightness.

I could be completely off-base here, but decades man, the decades!!!

Vimes you are correct that is how they dim and could also be a source of the problem

Also, give New Vintage a call. I have a custom set made by them and they were awesome when I had a few issues. Sent them back on their dime and they fixed it. No charge.
