I have an '81 sport coupe with a very tired 229 V6 that I've been dying to put a small block in since the day I drove it home (slowly). I finally found the opportunity to get a 400SBC with a TH350 already attached at a good price. Now comes the good part...doing the swap. I've read the threads on V6 to 305 and 350 V8 swaps and it seems pretty straight forward. Get a new fan shroud, get some V8 motor mounts and move them up to the next hole in the frame and all the bracketry should bolt right in. Is the process the same for a 400c.i.d? Is there anyone out there who has done this swap? Is there anything I should know about mating the th350 to the existing driveline? Any info would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

As long as the 400 you are talking about is a small block Chevy then it is exactly the same as a Chevy 350.
The TH350 is the same dimensions as the TH200C installed in the car now, so it is a simple conversion. The 200C should have a wire going to it to lock up the converter. You will not use this, as the TH350 does not have lockup. (You cannot just add it, either.)
