View Full Version : 68 Camaro -- I want 6 gauges but retain original console -- any ideas?

I have the original console with 4 gauges in my 68--gas/oil/battery/gas.

I want to add two more (trans temp/AFR).

Any ideas how to do this without it looking sloppy?

I thought I recalled someone years ago designing a 6-gauge center console pod...but I can't find anything on it at all.

Thanks,
Brent

I would mount those two gauges on the A pillar.

I think you are talking about CarlC. I thought he had the 6 gauge pod in his 68. He is on here and Lat-G, also try him on his company site http://www.vaporworx.com/

An option is for you to consolidate. For example you can order a MPH gauge with fuel gauge on the bottom and RPM gauge with temp at the bottom. I know speedhut makes gauges like that. like a 2 in 1 gauge.

I totally agree with JoeK, there are other options if you want a change of gauges. Another option is the Dakota Digital series. They have BIM modules that you could Integrate into their gauges to add those functions.

Check out Covan classic I got the center gauge for my 68 Camaro several years ago and have not had any problems.

Speedhut has done a couple cars for me, they are great to work with and have a nice product.

Thanks Gents--I don't want to change my current dash carrier gauge set up; I want to add two gauges either in the center console (6 total) or somewhere else.

I know CarlC has a 6-gauge in his 68's console and have PM'd him for details. I wonder if that is something that can be bought somewhere?

Also, any wisdom on an A-pillar gauge pod? Anyone have pics of one?

Thanks!

Brent

Yep, mine is a six-pot but it was fabricated by taking two Autometer four-pot carriers and cutting/grafting into a single six. It also means cutting and fab'ing the center console to accept the longer carrier.

I’ve got a Dakota Digital dash in my 68 and really like it. You can definitely get a BIM module for AFR but all said and done its a bit pricey. You can use a simple O2 sensor like the basic gauges use, it need to be an entire control module for the O2 sensor. I think the whole setup to add AFR was about 4-500. But it would be nice to just scroll one of the displays to the info you want.

Sorry I missed that Steve.

The boot is two components, the plastic ring that snaps into the black alumimum base plate, and the leather boot. The ring came from a 80's BMW something ??? and the boot my mom sewed up for me. The aluminum plate, though looking simple, is curved on the N-S and E-W axis, plus it's tapered from front to rear. I must have made 10 of them.........
