Auto Rad Radiator installed. Transmission tunnel is cut out for TR6060, Bowler trans tunnel kit ready to get welded in.
Inner fender and front sheet metal this week.

Still not 100%, should I go Whipple super charger or Nelson twin turbo?
I bought both for this car.

I really like the look of the Nelson mirror setup, personally.

Who did you have do the body work and tub work?

John McIntire
03-15-2020, 03:39 AM
That thing is going to a handful for sure! The Nelson set up is super nice and clean. The mirror image turbos keep everything symmetrical and his billet intake is very stealth looking with the integrated fuel rails and hidden injectors.

Have anymore pics of the Autorad setup?

So got the turbos mounted and down pipes made.
Also got the DSE exhaust trunk cut outs installed.
DSE gas door installed.
Baer brakes installed.
I have to install the R/S grill to finish the rest of turbo piping.

04-26-2020, 06:16 AM
Starting on the exhaust, turbos all done, front and rear brakes installed.
New twin disc clutch and T56 Magnum installed. I like the Holley T56 transmission cross member. Plenty of room for 3" exhaust. Fit great with DSE front clip.
Started wiring in Holley Dominator and also added thier traction control module.
Ricks tank is power coated and installed. Should be a running in a couple weeks.

I did the same thing, but there didn't seem to be many options for matching tires. Ended up going with Michelin Pilot SP2s to make it work.

Awesome! Looking real good!

I see you're using the Holley trans cross member on the DSE subframe. What motor mounts are you using and did you have any issues using it?

classiccarcustoms
06-27-2020, 11:20 AM
Holley cross member worked out great with DSE frame and Magnum T56.
Engine mounts I bought DSE LS kit but I moved the engine back another 1.5” to make room for turbo piping.

John McIntire
06-27-2020, 04:00 PM
DSE makes a mount kit to move the engine back 1.5 inches, which is what I have. Are you saying you moved the engine back another 1.5 inches, for a total of 3 inches? That would be pretty far back and would require some severe firewall mods based on what I see now with my 1.5 setback.

Nice car, looks well thought out. How are you controlling the dual throttle bodies? Are they DBW or cable? I'm considering a very similar setup for my project, and one of the end pieces involved a turbocharged LS-based 427 with twin throttle bodies using this intake. (https://www.edelbrock.com/black-cross-ram-ls3-intake-manifold-71413.html) Hadn't figured a way to run a pair of DBW throttles this way. Mine will be a little more complicated because I have to run an automatic, and will be running at least a 6 speed auto, so I have to run the factory computer. And, have you had it running on the road yet? How's the power and response, and how quickly does it build RPM?

classiccarcustoms
06-30-2020, 06:12 AM
Thank you.
Throttle bodies are electric and both run to my Holley Dominator controller.

You can run a Holley and do a stand alone TCM for your transmssion and get all your input for trans off the CAN line?

Vimes
07-01-2020, 02:21 PM
I sincerely hope that to be the case. I really want to do an LS3 based 427 backed by an 8 or 10 speed transmission. The new transmissions already have a standalone computer in them, they just need input from the ECM. A harness place claimed that the Gen 4 engine computer should be able to interface with a Gen 5 transmission and they were working on a harness to do just that, but they also said it's not working yet. I sent them an email and am waiting on a response. If their system can talk to the new transmissions then this system will solve all my problems. Otherwise I may be stuck with a 6 speed auto and a single throttle body.

Thanks for this, I'll post their response here either way.

EDIT - Well this sucks. They don't interface with anything beyond a 4 speed transmission. They don't even work with 6 speed autos. Oh well...

Thank you.
Yes had it running and on the road.
It's built so my wife can drive it, it's a beast.
Sent it to paint.
I have until Friday to pick the color.
-Lemas Blue with While Z28
-Hugger Orange with White Z28 stripes.
-Graphite Gray with black stripe.

Thoughts? I think I might sell the car.

Man that engine is a dream setup. Just out of curiosity why did you switch over to the T56 Magnum from the TR6060, ease of packaging the shifter?
My vote is for the graphite w/ black stripes

Now I am on the fence it looks so good solid color or should I add black Z28 stripes of black hokey stripe or leave it solid??
Any thoughts?

I wrestled with that on my car also. There are so many camaro with the stripes so I like the solid color. Sometimes I think the stripes take away from the color. That is a beautiful color

John McIntire
12-22-2020, 05:05 PM
I would keep it all solid, and then experiment with any stripe you want using vinyl. You could change the look of your car every year!

Love the base color, can't wait to see it all assembled!

Vimes
12-22-2020, 07:15 PM
Are you doing a cowl hood or a flat hood? SS stripe it with a cowl hood. No cowl, no stripes.

classiccarcustoms
12-23-2020, 07:20 AM
I had to run a factory cowl hood.
I tried a flat or SS hood but it wouldn't clear the turbo piping.

I think leave it solid and if I want Black stripes down the road like suggested try them in vinyl.

I hope to wet sand out next week then re install motor and trans.
I am also changing all billet parts to black and will be selling all the polished parts.

I am beating myself up right now over thinking my car.
Like:
-Billet power switchs (in the console or in the doors?)
-Wrap the dash in leather and if so, the whole dash to the front glass or just lower part?
-Inner door handles, what brand and style?
-Front seats? Avalon like my 61 Impala or 2014 camaro minus headrest and little more bolster ?
-R/S tail lights what style billet lenses and back up lights? I want billet back up lights, anyone have a extra set for sale?
-Front marker running lights, anyone have a billet set for sell?
-Add power locks? There is no outside key hole, and I never lock my cars, but someone might one day..

Any thoughts would be great.

1. I like them in the console, personally.
2. I just did the top in mine, but both look good. Just depends how custom on the dash you want to take it...
3. Still trying to figure that out myself haha
4. I like the 2014 Camaro seats
5. Not sure on the tail lights, but if you find an option for the backup lights in billet, please let me know. Same for the front.
6. I would add power locks simply if you go anywhere, park and go inside. Also, as you mentioned, if anyone else buys the car, they will more thank likely want door locks.

Audison amps, custom sub woofer box built.
Stereo all wired in and tuned. Sounds amazing.
Everything was built to be hidden behind a full trunk and enclosure.

This is an outstanding build great work! Can I ask where you are mounting your coils? I am also building a twin turbo first gen and am going insane trying to hide the coils as I really want to run billet Wegner valve covers. Keep up the great work!

Thank you.
Coils are mounted inside the car, I smoothed the dash speaker grill and they are all mounted in that location. 198169
