Estimate Please

Hi guys—first post here. I’ve spent the last year accumulating parts for my ‘68 Le Mans Blue Camaro. It’s a recent mid-grade original-ish restoration (which seemed fitting for a Plane Jane V8 bucket seat car). A solid B+. I’d like to move it into the A- range with the following parts:

18” American Racing VN507 wheels w/ Continental ExtremeContact tires
Complete Ridetech suspension - upper and lower control arms, coilovers, billet spindles, sway bars, four link rear, etc



Basic big disc brake kit
Steering rebuild kit and 12.7:1 steering box
Hotchkis subframe connectors
Auto Power roll bar
Holley Sniper EFI
LED exterior lights (blinkers and brake lights, not ground FX)
A few other knick knacks


The car is running a basic GMPP 350 SBC and 2004R 4-speed trans. They will stay stock-ish for the time being.

My question is, how much do you think it will cost me to have all of the above installed? I live in LA (Los Angeles, not Louisiana) since it probably makes a difference. I generally like to spin my own wrenches, but work has been crazy lately and I’m sick of having a pile of parts sitting next to my Camaro.

I'd say you're in the $5k range for living in LA. Everything here costs more.

I would think you could get it done for 5k. Depends how accurate all the kits are and if there is any fab work. In TX I would expect to pay 3k.

Id be willing to say more than 5k... It really all depends how detail-oriented all that work will be done... doing an in-tank pump for the efi? will the fuel system need to be re-plumbed (in hardline, I hope)? Changing the master cylinder to accommodate the different calipers? should the brake lines at the master be re-done? How is the roll bar getting mounted? How low will the car be? Wheel fitment, subframe connector clearances, exhaust to clear the 4 link? Lots of these bolt on parts can be installed with little modification to the car, but there should be thought put into HOW its getting installed. The details are what make a higher end build... higher end. If someone quoted you 60+ hours, I wouldnt be surprised. $100/hour is common here on the east coast

Those of you quoting prices, if you could put it into hours it would be more helpful now and in the future.

I would only quote a job like this based on time and materials. There are always things that don’t go as planned, parts that don’t fit and other changes required to make the first change work.
Not selling the parts and making the markup associated with the sale does not make me want the job as much either. And if there are questions or problems with the parts “I” didn’t buy, who do I call? Will they help?
I could see a fixed quote on a project like this going out the window very quickly.

mike, I don’t see a quality shop picking this up and the people who will, likely rip you off. As a friend I would do it for nothing. All I can say is be careful....

Looks like about 100 hours or so in labor to me before an alignment. That's what I'd charge if I was doing it in my shop (not my normal job, but I do side work).
