My 69 Firebird has a non-tilt column and after installing my Sparco seat, I now have the need for a removable steering wheel. I was planning on going with a nice suede small diameter wheel anyway.

What steering column disconnects are you guys using on factory 69 Camaro/Firebird steering columns? I also need one that will allow the universal type of wheel mount, I plan on going with this wheel or similar: https://www.ebay.com/itm/152906885108

I've never done this mod before so I'm not sure what it may entail or how to determine compatibility. Maybe name drop a vendor or two I could call and have them provide a solution for me?

Thanks!

I think most use NRG hub and quick release. They're geared more towards imports but a quality part. Just make sure you buy the set up from an authorized dealer. There's a lot of fakes out there.

NRG's website seems to really suck and sorting by vehicle/year. Another website lists this as fitting a 69 Firebird/Camaro:

https://www.andysautosport.com/products/nrg__SRK-250BK_MC.html

It just says "universal" though so I'm not sure.

Can anyone confirm what NRG quick release they are using?

Thanks!

EDIT: On another website, I found this thin version which I think I will much prefer: https://frsport.com/nrg-srk-400bk-quick-release-kit-thin-version-black

Then it looks like I need this hub to go with it: http://www.getnrg.com/index.php?route=product/product&path=172&product_id=685

That's the right hub. I use the 3.0 as the wings make it easier to operate with gloves on.

I don't know anything about the thin version but the ball drive on the regular height versions is very positive and only clocks one way. Also, the thin version is not compatible with the short hub that you linked to.

Thanks for pointing out they are not compatible with each other!

That sucks, I guess I'm stuck with one of their regular height disconnects. I guess the 2.5 one that I also linked to. Hopefully that works with the short hub.

Your best option is the NRG unless you feel like welding an adapter on. The application list on their site has always been accurate for me even when looking for odd vehicles.

Yes you do have to buy two separate pieces to have a real quick release. Which version is totally up to you since you pick how "tall" and what color/design. Fortunately their stuff has always been of decent quality and typically a little cheaper than certain competing Italian brands.
