Hey guys,

I am shopping for an aluminum driveshaft.

My Camaro will be lower than stock & am wondering what is the largest diameter driveshaft I can run & not rub on the trans tunnel?

My friend had told me if I get too large it will rub on a lowered car.

Thank you

Already answered your PM but aluminum drive shafts tend to be larger dia than steel. I have a steel 3" shaft. Between the DS and dual exhaust pipes there is not a lot of space in the tunnel. Also, given the proximity of the DS to the exhaust I would be concerned with heat potentially damaging a carbon fiber shaft.

Stock is something like 2 7/8", I've seen 3.5" aluminum used with success, but you have to be sure there are not any long screws protruding into the driveshaft tunnel.

3.5" aluminium works in my 1st gen. Clearance is actually tightest between the Speedtech torque arm crossmember & the driveshaft yoke for me

3.5 in 1967 camaro and 3" exhaust. It is very tight

I just ordered a 3.5" DynoTech Chromoly DF for my Tremec Magnum and Ford 9". It looks to me like it will be a VERY tight fit but *should* be ok.

No need to go that large unless it’s an aluminum driveshaft.

No need to go that large unless it’s an aluminum driveshaft.

in my case that was the size needed to mate up with the yoke I bought for the T56. Maybe I don't need such a beefy yoke - but it all fits and it's pretty unlikely to be a failure point down the road now.

I plan on an aluminum driveshaft for weight savings.
