Some time ago like many months and a gazillion postings, there was a discussion about voltage drops and kickbacks with high compression SBC engines especially running the Holley HP EFI system. If you installed your Holley HP ECM power leads as instructed and ran a separate ground from the battery to the block and still had the voltage drops and/or kickbacks, your crank timing may be too far advance and if you lowered the crank timing to zero or 5 degrees, and in most cases that would help and give you some relief with the hot starts.
Also, most likely you have your injector firing set for batch firing because the sequential firing created some havoc during both cold and hot starts. If you don't have a crank fire trigger, your Holley HP EFI will not functioned to your liking and your hot starts will experience kickbacks.
If for whatever reason you are not able to install a crank fire trigger because you have a dry sump system or other factors preventing the installation, your best bet is buy the Holley Dual Sync Distributor. I installed my dual sync distributor today and Walla, easier starts both cold and hot, quicker revs and no kickbacks on hot starts. It's worth the money to install the dual sync.
If your running a SBC with a tall deck block like my all aluminum Dart raceblock, make sure that you tell the Holley order taker that info so he will send you the correct distributor with the adjustable collar. The part number is 565-204.
Also, some of the HP EFI main harness do not have the 10 pin connector to mate up with the 10 pin on the distributor. The dual sync only uses 4 wires. So much for the plug and play feature foexquick and easy installation. Anyways, if your HP EFI harness does not have the 10 pin connector, you will need to order the appropriate gendered 10 pin, 3 pin, and 2 pin connector kits and fabricate a pigtail adapter to make the dual sync work with your system. You'll be glad that you did.
