Today I was reminded that America is really cool.

Today I had lunch with a young lady my company just hired. She is 22 years old, and alone at age 18 she walked herself out of Iran into Turkey. Worked in a Sheraton as a housekeeper to save enough money to come to the US on a Religious Asylum thing. She apparently is of a small Persian sect (dont recall the name, starts with a K I think) that really gets the short end in Iran.
She got to CA at 19, speaking only Farsi. Got a job at a Jamba-Juice to pay for rent and ESL classes. Worked her way into a GED program and is now working for us full time, owns a car, rents an appt. and is attending Santa Jose State at night.

Just thought I'd share that.

It always amazes me that someone is willing to work long and hard just to be here (USA and Canada) while so many that are born here never even try to reach their potential. I wish her luck and continued success.
