Factory 1977 W72 option 400 with TH350 transmission. Came out of a Trans Am. I never tested it as I purchased it from someone who didn't know how to install it in his Nova.

This is a great setup for anyone restoring a '77 Special Edition Trans Am, '77 Pontiac Can Am or other performance option Formula/Trans Am.

Correct factory chrome valve covers
Correct 17057266 quadrajet carburetor
Correct early style W72 intake manifold
Correct early 557 casting (78-79 W72 had the 988 casting)
Correct 6X-4 heads
Correct Y6 block code

$1500

Interest has died off on the engine so I’ve been wondering what I should do with it lately.

Keep waiting for a buyer?
Ditch the transmission and throw the 400 in my ‘79? (set aside the original engine)
Sell the engine in pieces? (Part our the engine)

What would you do with this engine? I’ve had online offers and interest messages but not one person has showed up to make a legitimate offer.

Did you post on the performance years forum? More likely to get some traction there I would think with the correct resto guys.

Yes, surprisingly I never got a response on that forum.

If you got the space, I would just preserve it and store it. I can't count the number of things I listed for sale, no interest so I either gave it away or tossed it. A year or two later...its super rare and someone is dying to buy one and "oh I got rid of that"

Pontiac guys are cheap. You’ll never get $1500. More like $500 from that crew....

That’s crazy because someone just offered $20 for a special vaccuum line piece and the carburetors go for a few hundred by themselves. The heads are pretty well desired for performance builds too. We’ll see what happens.

Wish I was closer- these are getting harder to find and always nice to have a spare

Distance is most people’s problem when they display interest. This is a definitely a desirable setup...even if someone to just look at the parts. 6X-4 heads are one of the most desired, late 70’s Quadrajets are great carbs (800cfm), factory chrome valve covers, etc.
